Welshpool Livestock Sales

Welshpool Livestock Sales report on an auction at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (40)

With 40 Otm cattle forward this week, we met with an overall average of 109.85ppkg. G P Pugh & Son, The Garth, presented a 933kg  Limousin cow making £1100.94 (118ppkg). A Saler cow from C F Jones, Lower Cefnpenarth, weighed 776kg making £1032.08(133ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £1185.05 (173ppkg) for a 685kg Charolais heifer from Roberts & Jones, Parc. A P Humphreys, Llwynmadoc Hen, presented a Charolais 20 month old heifer weighing 680kg making £1115.20 (164ppkg).

From Monday 29th February TB Tested Otm cows will be sold at 9 am in Ring 2, to be unloaded in bays 19 – 24. Followed by non-TB Tested cows in Ring 1, to be unloaded in bays 25 – 28.

PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD IN WRONG BAYS.

PRIME HOGGETS (4290)

An entry of 4290 prime hoggets selling to an average of 184.23ppkg

Super Lights (96) to 168ppkg from T M Jones, Ynystudor. Others to 163pplg from J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr. Average of 166.85ppkg.

Lights (176) to 212ppkg from J P Breeze & Son, Fronladys. Others to 186ppkg from C J Davies & Son, Waengwyn. Average of 175.63ppkg.

Standards (819) to 225ppkg from V Jerman, Gwernydd. Others to 199ppkg from A J Rees, Berthabley. Average of 180.89ppkg.

Mediums (1648) to 206ppkg & 202ppkg from J Jerman, Cloddia. Average of 186.31ppkg.

Heavies (1062) to 210ppkg from V Jerman, Gwernydd. Others to 200ppkg from D I Roberts & Son, Stingwern. Average of 184.57ppkg.

Over Weights (435) to 187ppkg from H M Powell & Son, WHitehouse. Others to 183ppkg from JR & RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Average of 169.38ppkg.

It is advised that Hoggets are belly clipped.

CULL SHEEP (1722)

An entry of 1560 averaging £58.04. Ewes topped at £116 presented by C Crowther, East Dudston. CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm, presented 13 cull ewes making £111.

A larger entry of 115 cull rams averaging £68.17. £138 was top price achieved by D A Jones & Co, Bronhaulwen.

CULL EWE VENDORS: Please ensure all cull sheep are correctly identified when offered for sale at the market.

 STORE LAMBS

An entry of 264 store lambs selling to an overall average of £39.80. Top call went to T E Lewis & Son, Abergwenlas, for a pen of 24 theave lambs selling to £67.50. Texel x Mixed and clean lambs from L S Phillpott, Birch Tree Cottage, sold to £50, whilst Mule lambs from D Rowlands, Pentre Celyn, sold to £50.

An entry of 54 cade lambs this week selling to an overall average of £16.35, reflective of a reduced entry compared to the previous week. Top price achieved was £30 from Red House farm.

Store lambs to commence again from 10.30am next Monday.

COUPLES

A smaller entry of 51 couples topping twice at £148. First from R Jones, Tanyffridd, for 2 Mule 3 year old ewes with twin Charollais x lambs at foot, and second from WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden, for a Texel x 2 year old ewe with twin Texel x Lambs. R C Lloyd, Coed Cae, presented a Texel x as found ewe with twin lambs selling for £147. Further entries from R Jones, Tanyffridd, reached £121 for a Texel x 2 year old with a single Charollais x lamb and £120 was achieved for 2 mule 3 year old ewes with single lamb Charollais x lambs. WA & EM Morris also presented 3 Texel x as found ewes with Twin lambs realising £145 and 4 Texel x as found ewes with single Texel x lambs at foot which sold for £105.
