Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a lively auction at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday 21st March 2016.
OTMS (17)
A small entry of Otm cattle met with an average 117.16ppkg. Topping the section was CV & EM Lewis,
Buttington New Hall, with a 954kg Limouisn cow making £1144.80 (120ppkg). G I Francis & Co, The
Bryn, sold a British Blue cow weighing 833kg making £1041.25 (125ppkg), a 56 month old Limousin
cow also from G I Francis & Co, weighed 921kg selling for £1289.40 (140ppkg). R I Owen & Co,
Cwmffynnon, presented an under 48 month old British Blue heifer weighing 570kg making £946.20
(166ppkg).
From Monday 29th February TB Tested Otm cows will be sold at 9 am in Ring 2, to be unloaded in bays
19 – 24. Followed by non-TB Tested cows in Ring 1, to be unloaded in bays 25 – 28.
PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD IN WRONG BAYS.

CULL SHEEP (1618)
A larger entry of cull ewes on offer averaging £62.25 (-£4 on last week), but still a strong trade on all
types of ewes. Ewes topped at £131 presented by S Evans, Green Farm. AN entry of 65 cull rams met with
an average of £79, very similar to last week. Rams topped at £150 from B Powell, Gilfch-y-Rhiw. Strong
demand throughout the sale.
CULL EWE VENDORS: Please ensure all cull sheep are correctly identified when offered for sale at the
market.
CADE LAMBS
An entry of 135 cade lambs this week met with an average of £9.16. Top price was £28 from H Evans &
Son, Winnington Hall.
COUPLES
An increased entry of 201 couples this week selling to a top price of £182 for a cracking pen of 5 Texel x
Mule yearling ewes with twin lambs at foot from E W Howells, Oakwood. Next in line was a 4 year old
Suffolk x ewe with 2 Texel x Lambs at foot presented by D W Roberts, Glancamlas sold for £181. E W
Howells, Oakwood, presented further lots of 5 Suffolk x 3 and 4 year old ewes with Twin lambs to £180.
A Suffolk x yearling with twin lambs at foot to £170 and 5 Suffolk x 3 and 4 year old ewes again with
twin lambs to £168.
Other notable prices for ewes with twin lambs were £170 for a texel 2 year old ewe with twin Charollais x
lambs at foot from Robert Jones, Tanyffridd. T M Davies, Wynnstay Farm, sold 4 Suffolk x Mule full
mouth ewes with twin Texel x lambs for £165.
Top price for single lambs was £160 for a Texel 2 year old ewe with a single Charollais x lamb at foot
from Robert Jones, Tanyffridd, who sold 2 lleyn yearling ewes with single Charollais x lambs at foot for
£133.
Other ewes with single lambs at foot for £128 for a Texel 3 year old with Texel x Lambs at foot from J O
Evans, Parc Y Pwll. Mr Evans also sold 2 Texel x ewes with single lambs at foot for £125.

8 cows and calves forward this week topping at £1420 from MJ Jones & Sons, Ty Llwyd Mawr, for a
British Blue x 2012 born cow with her Limousin x Bull calf. Also from the same how was a 2011 born
Limousin cow with her British Blue x Bull calf making £1410. S & AV Richards, Crabtree Farm,
presented a 2010 born Limousin x cow with her Limousin heifer calf making £1390. E< PA & GC Morris,
Bedren Farm, presented a British Blue x cow with her British Blue x calf making £1350.
