OTMS (14)

A small entry of 14 Otm cows this week topped at £1040.66 (122) for a 853kg Limousin cow from W R Jones, Henfache. P D Sheppard & Son, Heightly, presented a 779kg cow making £872.48 (112ppkg). Bulls under 72 months topped at £1192.17 (147ppkg) for a Charollais 17 month old bull weighing £811.

From Monday 29th February TB Tested Otm cows will be sold at 9 am in Ring 2, to be unloaded in bays 19 – 24. Followed by non-TB Tested cows in Ring 1, to be unloaded in bays 25 – 28.

PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD IN WRONG BAYS.

An entry of 2339 prime hoggets selling to an average of 189.04ppkg

Super Lights (17) to 166ppkg from JR & ME Roberts, Penarddlas. Average of 166ppkg.

Lights (103) to 192ppkg. Others to 190ppkg from IR Williams, COed Y Gweddill. Average of 185.16ppkg.

Standards (296) to 223ppkg from S J Smith, Penybryn. Others to 201ppkg from E E Powell & Son, CIl Pentre. Average of 184.63ppkg.

Mediums (990) to 227ppkg S F Jones, Winston Farm. Others to 219ppkg from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse. Average of 190.44ppkg.

Heavies (663) to 232ppkg from J A Gwalchmai, 5 Minffordd. Others to 212ppkg from JM & BJ Langford & Son, Pwllan. Average of 167.74ppkg.

Over Weights (244) to 201ppkg from JR RM JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Others to 187ppkg from J Ruggeri, Gwaelodyrhos. Average of 167.74ppkg.

It is advised that Hoggets are belly clipped.

PRIME LAMBS (22)

An entry of 22 prime lambs selling to an average of 253.78ppkg.

Lights (3) to 200ppkg from EM & RM Davies, Gerddi Gleision. Average of 200ppkg.

Standards (17) to 267ppkg from G Jones, Dolcoion. Others to 265ppkg from J HH Jerman & Co, Wernddu. Average of 262.44ppkg.

Mediums (2) to 251ppkg from J HH Jerman & Co, Wernddu. Others to 239ppkg from G Jones, Dolcoion.  Average of 244.77ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1037)

An entry of 968 cull ewes averaging £68.72 (+£6 on last week) overall a very strong trade on all types of ewes. Mr E Jenkins, Cil Haul, presented the top price ewe making £130.

52 rams forward selling to an average of £89, topping at £137.50 from BY & MY Davies, Gorse Farm.

CADE LAMBS

A large entry of 214 cade lambs this week selling to an average of £4.50. Topping at £25 from D Jones. Berthllwyd.

COUPLES

Despite the bad weather an increased entry of 237 couples, with a good mixture of younger and older ewes including the first of the Hoggs and lambs, were put forward for our easter Monday sale. A top of £224 was achieved for a cracking pen of Texel x yearlings with twin Charollais lambs at foot from E W Howells, Oakwood. Mr Howells also presented further lots with twin Charollais x lambs at foot, twice, realising £180 for two lots of 4 Suffolk x Yearling ewes and 8 lambs and £175 for three Suffolk x 4 year old ewes with 6 Charollais x lambs with his whole consignment selling to an average of £190 or £63 a life.

GO Jones & JA Lewis, Wern Farm, presented 2 Beltex x full mouth ewes with Twin Beltex x lambs at foot selling to £178 and £168 respectively and a single as found Mule again with Beltex x lambs for £168.

Other notable price for twins came from JBC Gwillim, Bwlch Garth, for a Suffolk as found with Twin Texel x lambs for £172 and £161 for a Charollais x as found ewe with twin Texel x lambs.

The sale also saw the first lot of hogs and lambs selling to a top price of £160 for a Blue Texel hogg with a single Blue Texel lamb at food from M Davies, Caerafon. Mr Davies presented two further lots of the same Blue Texel hogs and Blue Texel lambs selling for £152 and £150. With other Hoggs reaching £140 for a Texel x with a Single Charollais x lamb at foot from WG & AJ Duthie, 1 Cae Y Nant. Further Singles presented reached £160 for a 4 year old Suffolk with single Suffolk x lambs from E Hughes, Llwyn Berllan. £150 for 3 pure Texel yearlings with single Beltex x lambs at foot from J Isaac, Parc Cynhinfa.
