Welshpool Livestock Sales report from the auction at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday 

PRIME CATTLE 
Two prime heifers forward from JM & SM Rowlands, Dolwen Farm, weighing 600kg and 558kg making 242ppkg each.

OTMS (16)

An entry of 16 Otm cattle forward this week selling to an overall average of 119.31ppkg. Topping the section was EE Davies Limited, Erwpistyll, with a 747kg Limousin cow making £926.28 (124ppkg). G I Francis & Co, The Bryn, presented a 699kg Limousin cow making £901.71 (129ppkg). S B Owen & Co, Garreg, presented a British Blue 53 month old cow weighing 800kg making £1192 (149ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £850.95 (183ppkg) for a Limousin heifer weighing 465kg from R I Owen & Co, Cwmffynnon.

From Monday 29th February TB Tested Otm cows will be sold at 9 am in Ring 2, to be unloaded in bays 19 – 24. Followed by non-TB Tested cows in Ring 1, to be unloaded in bays 25 – 28.

PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD IN WRONG BAYS.

Lights (108) to 184ppkg from G, JL & RW Pritchard, Penysarn & Jones Bros, Rhiwaedog. Others to 178ppkg from J G Ellis & Son, Tynewydd. Average of 176.70ppkg.

Standards (455) to 203ppkg from MRM Matthews, Tanyfron. Others to 201ppkg from C & M Higgs, Little Bank. Average of 184.91ppkg.

Mediums (1344) to 245ppkg from G James & Sons, Penybank. Others to 238ppkg from A S Hopley, Kingsleigh. Average of 194.83ppkg.

Heavies (1429) to 235ppkg from G James & Son, Penybank . Others to 216ppkg from Probert & Probert, Lower Hill. Average of 191.47ppkg.

Over Weights (366) to 189ppkg from A S Hopley, Kingsleigh Farm. Others to 185ppkg from N Oughton, Lymore. Average of 170.01ppkg.

It is advised that Hoggets are belly clipped.

An entry of 397 prime lambs selling to an average of 271.66ppkg.

Lights (28) to 271ppkg from M Davies, Pantyrofyn. Others to 267ppkg from D S Evans, Llanerch Yr Oen. Average of 257.29ppkg.

Standards (267) to 356ppkg from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm. Others to 337pkg from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm. Average of 278.14ppkg.

Mediums (98) to 295ppkg from IL & OG Roberts, Y Ddol. Others to 272ppkg from J Corfield & Sons, Fairfield.  Average of 258.82ppkg.

Heavies (4) to 229ppkg from N A Derwas, Plas Trehelig. Average of 229ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1874)

A larger entry of 1779 ewes this week averaging £69.83 (+£1.10 on last week). Ewes topped at £130 from S H Lloyd & Sons, Penllan. Il & AJ Powell, Lower Cwmydalfa, presented a ewe making £128. An entry of 77 rams averaged £96.35 (+£7), topping at £144 for 3 rams from BE & BE Langford, Llettymeibion.

CADE LAMBS

A small entry of 54 cade lambs selling to an average of £11.91 to a top of £24 from EW & EG Griffiths, Gilfach.

COUPLES

An entry of 303 couples met with a mixed trade. Ewes with twins topped at £207 from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelly for 2 as found Beltex x ewes with Beltex x lambs at foot and ewes with single lambs realised £160 for 6 Texel x yearling ewes with Charollais x lambs at foot from E W Howells & Son, Oakwood.

Top prices for ewes with twins were as follows:

£207 – 2 x Beltex x as found with 4 Beltex x lambs from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelly.

£181 – 5 x Suffolk x 4 year old with 10 Texel x lambs from I & J Evans, Llwyn Hywel.

£180 – 6 x Beltex x as found with 12 Beltex x lambs from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelly.

£172 – 7 x Texel x full mouth with 14 Texel x lambs from M J Betton, Meadow View.

£168 – 2 x Suffolk yearlings with 4 Texel x lambs from I & J Evans, Llwyn Hywel

Top prices for ewe with Single lambs were as follows:

£160 – 6 x Texel x yearlings with 6 Charollais x lambs from E W Howells & Son, Oakwood.

£149 – 4 x Beltex x as found with 4 Beltex x lambs from B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelly.

£142 – 6 x Suffolk x 4 year old with 6 Charollais x lambs from E W Howells & Son, Oakwood.

£130 – 2 x Texel x 2 year olds with 2 Texel x lambs from S Lane, New Hall.

£125 – 3 x Texel x 2 year olds with 3 Texel x lambs from CHE Davies, Foel fach.

£125- 5 x Cheviot x 3 year odls with 5 Texel x lambs from HI & LJ Lloyd, Weirglodd-Deg.
