A consultation is to be launched this month as to what business support is needed in part of north Powys during a celebration event marking nearly two successful years of the Severn Valley Effect project.
The Severn Valley (SV) Effect will host a celebration event in Newtown April 19 marking over 18 months of helping 75 individuals and businesses with their enterprises since it was launched and to reveal plans to extend it for a further three years.
The project, run by local business people, entrepreneurs and a full-time facilitator in the Severn Valley area, including Llanidloes, Newtown and Welshpool, will launch a consultation to identify what focus the project should have over the next three years.
The event will allow business people and individuals to input on the future of the SV Effect with confidential voting during the event on topics including support for sales, marketing, premises, legislation, leadership, entrepreneurship and networking and events.
“We’ve reached an important milestone in the life of the SV Effect,” said project chairman and local businessman, Doug Hughes.
“The SV Effect was supposed to come to an end in March, but such is its success that it is to be extended to help more individuals and businesses and we want to hear about what support and advice they want moving forward as part of our consultation.”
The SV Effect was set up with support from the Welsh Government, Powys County Council and Sirolli Institute.
It works with local business people and individuals giving up their own time to help other entrepreneurs and enterprises, often providing specific support in areas such as design, retail, manufacturing, sales and marketing.
The project was extended until August this year following its success with hopes to secure funding for a further three years. More details are expected at the celebration event to be held at The Elephant and Castle Hotel from 6-8pm.
Members of the SV Effect’s project management board, its resource team, partners and stakeholders will also be attending.
“The event will celebrate what’s been achieved and will launch the consultation. It will also provide an opportunity for those seeking business support or advice to come along and meet the team,” said Mary Tudor, SV Effect Facilitator.
