OTMS (19)

Buyers present for the small but nonetheless good show of cattle in the OTM section.

A 2009 born Salers cow from CF Jones, Lower Cefnpenarth topped the section, weighing 774kg and selling for £1099.08. JH and ML Breeze, South Moelygarth presented a Limousin cow weighing 695kg, selling for £1021.65. A 50 month old Hereford cow from E and L Davies, Nantcribba Farm sold for £988.92 and weighed 738kg.

Highlights in the ‘Under 48 month’ section were a Friesian heifer weighing 653kg selling for £920.73 from E Gethin and Co, Tycoch and a Welsh Black steer that weighed 585kg selling for £906.75 from DJH Foulkes and Son, Maesteg.

OTM Cows (x7) averaged 110.53ppkg / £672.02

OTM Bulls (x2) averaged 125.97ppkg / £900.65

Cows 48 to 72 months (x2) averaged 126.42ppkg / £886.22

Heifers under 48 months (x5) averaged 117.43ppkg / £696.85

Steers under 48 months (x3) averaged 157.85ppkg / £870.29

Overall average of 122.75ppkg

PRIME LAMBS (3119)

A pleasing entry of 3119 prime lambs sold to an average of 181.08ppkg.

Lights (347) to 180ppkg from B and S Lewis, Ty Grugyn also JM and IM Lewis, Erwbarf. Others to 179ppkg from MRM Matthews, Tanyfron and AH Richards and Co, Tynant. Average of 171.26ppkg

Standards (948) to 201ppkg from I Hughes and Sons, Middletown Farm. Others to 200ppkg from NG and GG Davies, Trawsgelli, MRM Matthews, Tanyfron and Red House Farm, Aberhafesp respectively. Average of 175.38ppkg

Mediums (1448) to 210ppkg from RA Davies, Llawnt Isaf. Others to 207ppkg from GJ Williams, The Oak. Average of  186ppkg.

Heavies (317) to 205ppkg from RA Davies, Llawnt Isaf. Others to 203ppkg from DP Casewell, Tanrhiw. Average of 184.69ppkg.

Over Weights (9) to 180ppk from AE Casewell, Bodynfoel. Others to 176ppkg from T Gittins, Sweet Meadow. Average of 173.79ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2267)

Temperatures soared along with averages!

A consistent entry of 2267 cull sheep returned improved averages of £55.99 for ewes and £80 for rams. Ewes peaked at £94 presented by J and B Vaughan, Sychtyn. Ewes grouped accordingly reaped a premium with a bunch of 13 from CL and C Watkins, Bank Farm and 9 from WA and EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden all selling for £93. RG and JL Peate, Cwmderw topped the rams with a pair selling to £128 and a single ram to £116.
