Welshpool Livestock Sales report on an auction at  Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.


OTMS (31)

A good entry of 31 Otm cattle this week topping at £1050.30 from E Davies & Co, Dyffryn Gwyn, with a Limousin weighing 778kg. Otm bulls topped  at £1178.88 for a 921kg Limousin from EO & VJ Roberts, Cefn Coed Isaf. G H Bayliss & Son, Borfa Wen, presented a British Blue 48 – 72 months old cow weighing in at 622kg making £858.36. Heifers under 48 months topped at £926.37 for a 657kg Limousin from T E Thomas & Co, Melin-Y-Grug.

Otm Bulls (x3) averaged 105.94ppkg / £1075.96

Cows 48 to 72 months (x6) averaged 97.81ppkg / £592.43

An entry of 5212 prime lambs sold to an average of 160.39ppkg.

Standards (1001) to 250ppkg from J H Jones, Derwen. Others to 191ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 159.04ppkg

Mediums (2534) to 209ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Others to 192pkg from Red House Fam, Aberhafesp. Average of  161.98ppkg.

Heavies (1142) to 204ppkg from L Harding, Swn-Y-Gwynt. Others to 190ppkg from IE Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant. Average of 161.95ppkg.

Over Weights (298) to 167ppkg  from DRE Jones, Offa Farm. Others to 167pkg from F W Humphreys & Sons, Brook House. Average of 157.15ppkg.


CULL SHEEP (2669)

A good entry of 2669 cull sheep this week seeing averages of £41.84 for ewes and £66.22 for rams. Topping the ewe section was D B Thomas, Blaen Parc, with a pen of 8 Ewes making £116. D R Owen & Sons, Sandilands, presented 8 ewes making £100. Rams toped at £134 from G & M & A Jones, Cefndre.

HM Powell & Sons, Whitehouse, presented a ram making £132.


STORE LAMBS (1534)

A good entry of store lambs this week topping at £80 for a pen of 4 Beltex x ewe lambs from DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge. Mixed and clean lambs topped at £68 for Suffolk x lambs from D W Davies, Penybank. Wether lambs topped at £63.50 for Texel x lambs from TEA Owen, Hollybush. A Tup lamb from G M Mills, Penisaf Manledd, made £70.

Theave Lambs (333) averaged £53.95

Mixed and clean lambs (243) averaged £54.49

Wether lambs (110) averaged £58.82

Tup lambs (824) averaged £40.84

Mixed and tup lambs (24) averaged £47.33

BREEDING EWES (2476)

Another catalogues sale of breeding ewes proved popular once again seeing an entry of 2476 sheep entered. Topping the sale were 8 Texel ewes from M A Andrew, Tycerrig, making £138, also from the same home were a pen of 10 Suffolk x yearling ewes making £132. 10 Mules from WR & DA Evans, Brwyn, also made £138. A good pen of 20 Welsh ewes presented by E Evans & Son, Brynsyfedd, made £132. O LL Jerman & Sons, Tuhwntirafon, presented 20 three year old Mule ewes making £128, and another similar pen making £122. H Hughes & Son, Hendy, presented a pen of 10 Suffolk x ewe lambs making £102.

Averages of the day were as follows:

Yearling Ewes (867) £104.06 top of £138.

Two Year Old Ewes (25) £83.76 top of £92.

Three Year Old Ewes (125) £101.42 to £128.

Full Mouth Ewes (423) £68.27 top of £88.

As found Ewes (607) £57.76 top of £122.

Ewes Lambs (428) £73.91 top of £102.

Breeding ewe sale Next Monday, sale to commence at approximately 11.30 am following the sale of store lambs.


BREEDING RAMS

Today saw a catalogued sale of 150 MV accredited multi breed rams. Topping the sale was Olford Texels with a Texel yearling ram making 450 gns. Also from the same home was a similar outfit making  400gns. ME & MB Roberts, Woodleasowes, presented another Texel yearling making 400gns.  A Suffolk ram lamb from GA & AW Wood, Orchard Court, made 220gns.
