Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday

OTMS (22)

A small show of Otm cattle this week, topping the Otm section at £958.50 (135ppkg) was M T Williams, Oakdale, with a 710kg British Blue Cow. JHM Williams & Co, Cefngwilgy Fawr, presented a Limousin weighing 664kg making £849.92 (128ppkg). Cows 48 to 72 months topped at £817.20(120ppkg) for a Limousin weighing 681kg from R I Owen & Co, Cwmffynnon. Heifers under 48 months topped at £886.92 (114ppkg) for a 778kg Hereford from P E Pryce, Dolgead Hall.

Otm Cows (x15) averaged 103.18ppkg / £636.42.

Cows 48 to 72 months (x5) averaged 90ppkg / £530.57.

Heifers under 48 months (x2) averaged 93.32ppkg / £558.96.

Overall average of 99.48ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (5836)

An entry of 5836 prime lambs sold to an average of 163.05ppkg.

Super Lights (127) to 138ppkg from R I Edwards, Brynsion. Others to 133ppkg from E I Edwards, Bryncelyn. Average of 129ppkg.

Lights (970) to 183ppkg from P Andrews, Lower Fachwen. Others to 169ppkg from CP & VM Andrew & Son, Bronfedw. Average of 150.95ppkg.

Standards (1196) to 188ppkg from DE Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Others to 182ppkg from AJ Hough, Brynbuarth Farm. Average of 158.35ppkg.

Mediums (1877) to 244ppkg from GO Jones & JA Lewis, Wern Farm. Others to 244ppkg from IE Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant. Average of 169.85ppkg

Heavies (1156) to 270ppkg from JA Gwalchmai, 5 Minffordd. Others to 245ppkg from DE Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Average of 163.63ppkg

Over Weights (417) to 184ppkg from T H Vaughan & Son, Maes Mochnant Uchaf. Others to 161ppkg from E L Evans & Co, Green Farm. Average of 148.27ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1890)

A slightly smaller entry of culls this week seeing averages of £55.53 for ewes and £73.26 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £125 was EL Evans & Co, Green Farm, S J Smith, Penybryn, presented ewes making £116. Cull rams topped at £130 from A E Casewell, Bodynfoel. OLL Jerman & Sons, Tuhwntirafon, presented a ram making £118.

STORE LAMBS

An entry of 926 store lambs this week selling to a top of £73 for a pen of mixed and clean lambs from E Jones & Son, Penbontpren. Tup lambs from EE Richards & EJ Daniels, Brynbach. Theave lambs topped at £64 from I W Edwards & Son, Bryn-Yr-Orsedd. Weather lambs topped at £48 from H W Hughes, Dolgwybedin.

Theave Lambs (159) averaged £51.94.

Mixed and Clean Lambs (427) averaged £46.10.

Wether lambs (83) averaged £37.34.

Tup Lambs (257) averaged £52.08.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 42 cows and calves this week topping at £2420 for a Pedigree Limousin 1^st calver with her Limousin steer calf from I G Jones, Buarth Yr Oen, also from the same home at £2400 was a Limousin 1^st calver with a steer calf. M J Bower, Footbridge Farm, presented a 2011 born Limousin cow with a bull calf making £1980. W I Jones & Son, Cilcwm Fawr, presented a Limousin x 1^st calver with a Limousin heifer calf making £1660. S Watkin, Mount Nebo, presented 2 similar outfits, British Blue x 1^st calver, one with a bull calf the other a Heifer calf making £1600 respectively. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 3 lots, £1800 - £2000 3 lots, £1600 - £1800 5 lots, £1400 - £1600 7 lots, £1200 - £1400 10 lots, £1000 - £1200 3 lots, < £1000 9 lots.

STORE CATTLE

An entry of 173 store cattle met with averages of 194.41ppkg or £903.50 for steers, and heifers averaged 195.90ppkg or £879.41.
