Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (20)
A small entry of otms this week, topping at £999.60 (140ppkg) for a 714kg Charolais otm cow from RG & BM Harding, Delfryn. Probert & Probert, Lower Hill, presented a Limousin otm cow weighing in at 513kg making £748.98 (146ppkg). cows 48 to 72 months topped at £1491.50 (190ppkg) for a 785kg Limousin from E H Pennie & Son, Gwern-yr-Ychain.
Cows 48 to 72 months (x5) averaged 156.41ppkg / £1084.20.
Heifers under 48 months (x1) averaged 128ppkg / £834.56.
Bulls under 72 months (x1) averaged 136ppkg / £1157.36.
Overall average of 132.57ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.
PRIME HOGGETS (2623)
An entry of 2623 prime lambs sold to an average of 173.95ppkg.
Lights (129) to 181ppkg from Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn. Others to 176ppkg from B Davies, Derwen Deg. Average of 166.22ppkg.
Standards (484) to 243ppkg from G Watkins, Brynfa. Others to 191ppkg from JM & JG Shearer, Cochsidan. Average of 174.32ppkg.
Mediums (876) to 233ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 231ppkg from A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn. Average of 174.55ppkg
Heavies (663) to 215ppkg from E B Ellis, Penisarcwm . Others to 205ppkg from T G Davies, Home Farm. Average of 164.92ppkg
Over Weights (256) to 175ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 164ppkg from T G Davies, Home Farm. Average of 146.85ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (1104)
A much smaller entry of culls this week seeing averages of £42.69 for ewes and £63.92 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £105 were three ewes from JC & E Jones, Hafod. G Griffiths, Bryncylla, presented a ewe making £100. Rams topped at £107 for two cull rams from DWK Davies, Rhydyfydwydd. DR Owen & Sons, Sandilands, sold a ram making £100.
STORE LAMBS (274)
Seasonal entry of store lambs this week topping at £65.50 for Texel x lambs from RG & KA Lewis & Son, Hockleton. Tup lambs topped at £62 for 19 welsh lambs from D M Jones, Geseilfa Uchaf. Theave lambs topped at £59 for 17 Texel x lambs from JG & GE Buckley, Tynycelyn.
Averages for the day were as follows:
Theave Lambs (54) averaged £53 topping at £59.
Mixed and clean lambs (99) averaged £53.30 topping at £65.50.
Wether lambs (15) averaged £40.53 topping at £50.50.
Tup lambs (63) averaged £50.61 topping at £62.
Cade Lambs - An entry of 63 cade lambs this week seeing an average of £7 being achieved. GE Davies & Sons, Bryndulas, topped the section at £18.
COUPLES
An entry of 33 ewes and their lambs forward at Welshpool market this week. topping at £160 was a Texel as found ewe with cracking twin lambs from WA & EM Morris, Maestanyglwyden. also from the same home were other texel aged ewes with twin lambs to £155, £152, £150 and Texel aged ewes with single lambs to £140 & £110. R C Lloyd, Coed Cae, presented Mule as found ewes with twin lambs to £154 & £145.
