Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.


OTMS (37)

A good show of 37 otm cattle with an ace trade. Topping the section at £1188 (135ppkg) was a 880kg Charolais cow from E J Rowley, Penthryn. WRL Price & Co, Pencwm, presented a 649kg Limousin making £1057.87 (163ppkg). Cows 48 – 72 months topped at £1093.68 (168ppkg) for a 651kg Limousin from E Gethin & Co, Tycoch.  Heifers under 48 months topped at £1081.16 (179ppkg) for a Limousin weighing in at 604kg from IP Jones, Ddol Fawr.

Section round-up

Otm Cows (x23) averaged 130.96ppkg / £852.47.

Cows 48 – 72 months (x9) averaged 138.87ppkg / £795.11.

Heifers under 48 months (x4) averaged 161.21ppkg / £1025.69.

Steers 48 – 72 months (x1) averaged 154ppkg / £959.42.

Overall average of 136.63ppkg


PRIME LAMBS (7489)

An entry of 7489 prime lambs with an average of 189.21ppkg.

Lights (460) to 189ppkg from T M Davies, Wynnstay Farm. Others to 175ppkg from J Ll Morgans & Sons, Tymawr. Average of 158.59ppkg.

Standards (1141) to 241pkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 237ppkg from CJ Davies & Son, Waengwyn. Average of 178.92ppkg.

Mediums (3722) to 288ppkg  from T H Vaughan & Son, Maesmochnant Uchaf. Others to 274ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 191.86ppkg.

Heavies (1825) to 229ppkg from G Morgan, Cae Garreg. Others to 226ppkg from RE & EA Jones & Son, Cletterwood. Average of 195.40ppkg.

Over Weights (220) to 202ppkg from JM & BJ Langford & son, Pwllan & DD & MJ Evans, Pantywynthrew. Others to 201ppkg from G & H Jerman, Tynyrwtra  . Average of 189.49ppkg.


CULL SHEEP (3564)

This week we saw another strong entry of cull ewes totalling at 3455. Ewes averaged £44, this was down £6 on the previous week, however a larger proportion of the ewes were welsh type. Strong mules, and continentals were in very strong demand. Ewes peaked at £130 presented by DN Williams, Cwmdylluan, Van, Powys.  A slightly larger entry of killing rams were present achieving an average of £71.  For more information please contact Joe Powell (075055524943) or Sion Roberts  (07852252371).


STORE LAMBS (862)

Bigger show of store lambs this week and the season progresses, topping the section was £76  for charollais x mixed and clean lambs from E J Emerson, Cwm. Tup Lambs topped at £73.50 for Texel x lambs from EH & DE & GO Lloyd, Pandy. Theave lambs topped £58.00 from the same good home EH & DE &GO Lloyd, Pandy.  Averages for the day were:

Theave Lambs averaged £49.88 reaching £58.

Mixed and clean lambs averaged £56.25 reaching £76.

Tup lambs averaged £51.79 reaching £73.50


BREEDING EWES

A small entry sold to a somewhat slower trade with prices peaking at £152 for 10 Texel x ewes from DE & KD Langford, Brunant, and others from the same home hitting £140. 2 year old ewes topped at £84 for the some small compact Texels from G E Davies, Bryn Dulas, and full mouth Suffolk x ewes from the same home hitting £96.

Rangey as found mules peaked at £76 for 30 from H C Roberts, Orseddwen.

Averages for the day were: Yearlings £140, 2 Year Olds £84, Full Mouth £96 and As Found Ewes £70.

Prize catalogued sale next week with an entry of 1800 ewes, Catalogues available for mart office. Sale to commence at 11.30am.



COWS & CALVES

A seasonal entry of 11 cows and calves topped at £1650 for a Blonde x  2012 born cow with her Blonde x Steers calf from F J Owens & Co, Lletygynfach. Also from the same home was a similar outfit of a Blonde x cow born 2013 with a Blonde x steer calf making £1600. E Evans & Co, Bodilan Fawr, presented a Limousin x 2011 born cow with her Limousin heifer calf making £1340.

A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £1600 + 3 lots, £1200 - £1400 6 lots, £1000 - £1200 2 lots.


STORE CATTLE

An entry of 222 store cattle saw averages of 218.56ppkg or £1032 per head for steers and heifers averaged 219.59ppkg or £1002 per head. Leading the way with top prices per head were:

Limousin (x1) 795kg £1235 M R Williams, Wern Holding, Pool Quay.

Simmental (x1) 610kg £1215 R E Evans & Son, Dinnant, Manafon.

Charolais (x1) 710kg £1385 R E Evans & Son, Dinnant, Manafon.

Charolais (x4) 571kg £1345 W L Hamer , The Bryn, Abermule.

British Blue (x1) 595kg £1260 O T Evans, Delfryn, Brynhoffnant.
