Aged ram leads Beltex sale

An aged ram from Ioan Jones led the trade at Wednesday’s sale of Beltex at Welshpool when taking a 3600gns bid. Sale leader was Airyolland Whisky Tango, an Airyolland Tango son out of a dam by Dooley Napal. He sold to Georgina Delves, Churchstoke.

Second best in the male sections was a 2800gns for a shearling ram, Whatmore Beaver from Steve and Sara Gibbons. This son of Whatmore Temper is out of a Wern Riley daughter and sold to Richard Pilkington, Wrexham.

And then at 2500gns was the best of the ram lambs,  Daffyd Owen’s Smart Ass Casanova, an Ardstewart Aristocrat son out of a dam by The Godfather. He was knocked down to Andrew Wood, Preston.

Following him at 2200gns was the second top priced shearling tup, Gwion Morgan’s Wern Bruno. Sired by Broughton Willie Wonder and out of an imported dam he was the choice of A J P and W N Evans, Llanycrwys Farmers.

Just shy of that at 2100gns was another shearling tup, Dylan Davies’ Tryman Ben, a son of Mortons Thunderbolt and out of a Llechach Panda daughter. This one found a new home with R A Davies, New Mills, Powys.

Then making 1900gns was Whatmore Bacon from the Gibbons family, with this one by Llywnbrain Nelson and out of a Woodies Perfection daughter. He was bought by M Eckley, Glasbury-On-Wye.

And following along at 1700gns was Buarth Bandit, a shearling from G S Mathias. Sired by Balbrydie Winston he goes back to Y Bedol Talisman on his dam’s side and was knocked down to E G and S B Oliver, Tregarth.

Two then sold at 1600gns, with the first being from Rob Rattray and family. This was Rattray’s Bullseye, an Airyolland Slingshot son out of a dam by Clary Kaiser Chief. He sold to Colin and Wendy Phillips, Sarnsfield, Herefordshire.

The other at this level was another from the Whatmore pen of the Gibbons family, Whatmore Boris. He is by the homebred Whatmore Winston and out of a dam by Whatmore Kosher. This one joined his pen mate which M Eckley, Glasbury-On-Wye.

Four males then shared a 1500gns price tag, with Mike Owens and family selling two shearling tups at this level. The first was Glantre Boozer an Airyolland Sundance son out of a dam by Woodies Scooby, while the second was Glantre Bruno Mars, a similarly bred shearling. These sold to Steve Smith, Castle Caereinion, and E Jones, Cemmaes Road, respectively.

The others at this price were both ram lambs. The first being Hackney Click Here from Paul Tippetts. He is by Airyolland Aragon and out of a dam by Scooby Doo. He was bought by James Little, Ireby, Cumbria.

And the second was Godor Cai from Cennydd Howell. He’s by Woodies Wall and out of a dam by Dooley Sparky and sold to E G and S B Oliver, Tregarth.

Females

Best of the day in the females was a 2900gns bid for a gimmer from T G Davies, Y Bedol Bryn Bach Beauty. Sired by Hackney Wonder she is out of a dam by Y Bedol Talisman and was bought by Paul Tippetts for the Hackney flock, Shifnal.

And making 900gns was the best of the day from Rob Rattray, Aberystwyth. This was Rattray’s Beatrix, a Dooley Thurstan daughter out of a Rattray’s Mr Urdd daughter. This one was the pick of E G and S B Oliver, Tregarth.

At 820gns was a gimmer from Messrs Prince, Chesterfield, with this one being Stonedge Betsy, a Broughton Willie Wonder daughter out of a dam by Orkney Something Special. She sold to Neil Oughton, Montgomery.

Messrs Oliver were then back in action when buying one of two to make 800gns. This was Tywi Bloom from Ioan Jones and is by Balbrydie Winston and out of a Beachy Norton sired dam.

The other at this money was Osbert Beauty from D Davies. She is out of a Belmore Lamar daughter and was bought by L Cattermole, Kirkham.

Averages; 58 shearling ewes £526.63, eight ewe lambs £429.19, 182 shearling rams £733.73, 39 ram lambs £599.31, two aged rams £2557.50 (Welshpool Livestock Sales).
