Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (49)
A great entry of otm cattle this week seeing superb averages throughout, topping the otm section at £1374.48 (184ppkg) was CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall, with a 747kg Limousin cow. A P Humphreys, Llwynmadoc Hen, presented a 810kg Aberdeen Angus Cow making £1134 (140ppkg).
Younger cows sold to £1329.97 (179ppkg) for a 743kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis. E H Pennie & Son, Gwern Y Ychain, sold a 706kg Limousin younger cow to £1299.04 (184ppkg).
Heifers under 48 months reached £1292.38 (174ppkg) for a 737kg Limousin from EH Pennie & Son. DH & MA Lewis, Pinion, sold a Charolais heifer at 737kg making £1282.18 (182ppkg).
Section round-up
Otm Cows (x35) averaged 126.33ppkg / £818.35.
Cows 48 – 72 months (x7) averaged 150.59ppkg / £1056.07.
Heifers Under 48 months (x6) averaged 160.40ppkg / £967.74.

An entry of 3951 prime lambs with an average of 166.79ppkg.
Lights (200) to 179ppkg from D B Williams, Ty coch. Others to 171ppkg from J Stanley, 14 Rorrington. Average of 141.03ppkg.
Standards (816) to 215pkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 185ppkg from GM & HI Evans, Plasiolyn. Average of 162.04ppkg.
Mediums (1871) to 223ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 217ppkg from CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn. Average of 169.59ppkg.
Heavies (877) to 224ppkg from JL & JER Davies, Ffinnant. Others to 214ppkg from TW Price & Morgan, Tyrosser. Average of 169ppkg.
Over Weights (159) to 189ppkg from TH Vaughan & Son, Maesmochnant. Others to 182ppkg from J Ruggeri, Gwaelodyrhos. Average of 167.16ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (2111)
A slightly reduced entry of 2083 cull ewes, trade was similar with slight lack of finished continental type ewes. Ewes averaged £43.46, peaking at £108 from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. JH & EL Jones, Dyers Hall Farm, presented an excellent pen of 12 strong ewes averaging £94.50.

STORE LAMBS (1076)
A strong entry of 1076 store lambs this week selling to an average of £49.50. The top price went to E J Emerson, Cwm Colbatch, Shropshire with £73.00 Mixed and clean charollais lambs. I W Richards, Park Farm, Red Lane presented texel theave lambs topping £70.00. Tup lambs topped £64.50 from W M Woosencraft, Lower Clas.

COWS & CALVES
An entry of 16 cows and calves this week saw a top of £2000 for a Simmental x cow with her Aberdeen Angus x heifer calf from G Roberts, Belle Vue, also from Mr Roberts was a Limousin x cow with a Limousin x steer calf making £1980 and another Simmental x cow with her Limousin x heifer calf making £1950. AN entry of 8 cows and calves from CA & ED Clifton, March Farm, topped at £1620 for a Limousin x cow with a salers x heifer calf. Messrs Clifton’s 8 outfits averaged £1340.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows:
£1800 - £2000 3 lots, £1600 - £1800 2 lots, £1400 - £1600 2 lots, £1200 - £1400 5 lots, £1000 - £1200 3 lots , < £1000 1 lot.
BREEDING EWES
An exceptional entry of over 3500 breeding ewes that included large entries from local vendors was met with a buoyant trade that saw the best sheep knocked down for £390 for 5 Texel 2 year olds from G Powell, Gilfach Y Rhiw. 32 Texels from the same home averaged £284/ head.
JO Evans presented an outstanding entry of 162 ewes which included 142 Improved Welsh yearlings that sold to a top of £190 and averaged £163 and 20 Beulah yearlings that sold to £160.
Bryan Jones presented his annual consignment of 330 yearling ewes comprising of 119 improved welsh selling to £156 and averaging £145, 174 welsh mules selling to £154 and averaged £132 and 37 Texel x yearlings that sold to £140 and averaged £125.
M Williams, 1 Carnedd, sold 4 Texel x yearlings for £180 and 15 yearling mules for £170.
Best 2 year old ewes hit £102 from E Price, Troedrhiwcastell, for 11 mules and £100 for 12 Texels from SM Bebb, Ffridd Cowny.
3 year old mules hit £112 from O Ll Jerman & Sons, Tuhwnthirafon and £104 from R A Meddins, Hafod.
GE Davies & Sons, Cwmbromley, sold 44 full mouth Texel ewes for £108.
As found ewes peaked at £85 for 10 Texels from JJ Thomas & Son, Penybank.
