Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (5)

Just 5 otms forward this week selling to a top of £840.95 (121ppkg) for a 695kg British Blue from GE Davies & Sons, Caesiencyn. Younger cows topped at £934.56 (144ppkg) for a 649kg Angus cow from JT & GH Jones, Talerddig Farm.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (x4) 117.21ppkg / £695.94.

Cows 48-72 months (x1) 144ppkg / £934.56.

Overall Average 122.96ppkg.

PRIME HOGGETS (2150)

An entry of 2150 prime hogget’s sold to an overall average of  242.93ppkg.

Lights (156) to 228ppkg from M W Hamer, 3 Corricks Rise. Others to 225ppkg from  J H Morris, Brynaber. Average of 197.44ppkg.

Standards (348) to 288ppkg from M & H Owens, Glantre. Others to 278ppkg from M & Owens, Glantre . Average of 233.77ppkg.

Mediums (944) to 300ppkg from M & H Owens, Glantre. Others to 273ppkg from J A Gwalchmai, 5 Minffordd. Average of 250.83ppkg

Heavies (513) to 257ppkg  from J & J Beavan & Sons, Winsbury. Others to 255ppkg from J C Evans & Co, Belan Newydd. Average of 240.82ppkg   

Over Weights (100) to 232ppkg from George Owen & Sons, Tynewydd & J C Evans & Co, Belan Newydd. Others to 228ppkg from J C Evans & Co, Belan Newydd.  Average of 218.19ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1108)

An entry of 1108 cull sheep saw and average of £55 for ewes. Ewes peaked at £136 from G James & Sons, Penybank. £128 was achieved for ewes from HG Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Cull rams topped at £123 from WEG Evans, Llwynycrwth. Overall strong ewes sold to an exceptional trade on well fleshed ewes.

CADE LAMBS

Large entry of 64 cade lambs selling to a depleted audience as a result of the weather. Cades topped at £18 with others to £17 x4, £16 x 4 and averaging £8.27.

COUPLES

A small reduced catalogued sale of couples forward due to the bad weather and may vendors not being able to make it off the farm yard. Of the 16 forward highest price hit £165 for 3 Texel x as found ewes with twin lambs from JBC Gwillim, Bwlch Garth, other from the same home hot £160 and £155.

Far more entries expected next week with next catalogued sale being Monday 19th March.
