Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (18)

A smaller entry of otm cattle this week topping at £1121.76 (171ppkg) for a Limousin weighing 656kg from AG & JK Davies, Upper Esgair. S B Owen & Co, Garreg, presented a Limousin otm weighing 691kg making £1084.87 (157ppkg). Younger cows topped at £1150.80 (168ppkg) for a 685kg Limousin from DP Evans, Moel-y-Garth. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1158.08 (154ppkg) for a 752kg Blonde from M R Williams, Wern Holding. DP Evans, Moel-y-Garth, presented a 587kg Limousin heifer making £1015.51 (173ppkg).

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (x10) 139.57ppkg / £923.82.

Cows 48-72 months (x3) 146.78ppkg / £905.11.

Heifers Under 48 months (x4) 162.38ppkg / £1017.71.

Steers under 48 months (x1) 130ppkg / £561.60.

Overall Average 145.39ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (4216)

An entry of 4216 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 236.94ppkg.

Standards (1070) to 288ppkg from R A Jones, Red Gwenthrew. Others to 286ppkg from B R Corfield, Rhos Royal. Average of 225.38ppkg.

Mediums (2511) to 307ppkg from T K Robinson, Tynewydd. Others to 294ppkg from R A Jones, Red Gwenthrew. Average of 243.62ppkg.

Heavies (210) to 268ppkg from C W Eynon, Blaen Dyffryn. Others to 260ppkg from MD Bufton & JD Pryce, Cefn Y Berrin Uchaf. Average of 242.40ppkg.

PRIME HOGGETS (394)

An entry of 394 prime hogget’s sold to an overall average of 167.97ppkg.

Lights (57) to 160ppkg from G H Ellett, Cefn Derwen. Average of 156.39ppkg.

Standards (96) to 199ppkg from M P B Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu. Others to 184ppkg from A Rowlands, Llwyn Yr Odyn. Average of 169.99ppkg.

Mediums (36) to 199ppkg from Evan Davies & Co, Red House. Others to 179ppkg M P B Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu. Average of 176.27ppkg.

Heavies (14) to 196ppkg from I P Jones, Bryn Clochydd. Average of 153.66ppkg

CULL SHEEP (2053)

An entry of 2053 culls this week achieved an average of £54.56 for ewes and £87 for rams. Ewes peaked at £105 from J A Gwalchmai, 5 Minffordd. I & S Evans, Llwynhywel, presented a pen of ewes making £104. rams topped at £131 from RE & L Jones, Farchwel. A large entry of well flesh mules and suffolks ewes this week. COUPLES

As the couples season comes to an end a small entry of 54 dominated by entries from F Bailey, Pensarn, and J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr.

F Bailey, Pensarn, sold a 2 year old mule with a single charollais lamb for £195 with other ewes with singles to £173. Ewes with twins from the same home peaked at £217 for a 2 year old suffolk x with charollais lambs.

The trade on hoggs and lambs was far steadier than in recent weeks as 3rd and 4th drafts went under the hammer selling to a top price of £173 for a Mule with a single lamb from F Bailey, Pensarn, with others from the same home selling to £172, £162 and £158 x2. J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr, presented a run of mule hoggs and lambs selling to £151, £148 x2 and £145.

Breeding ewe sales kick off on Monday 30th July with the 1st catalogued sale of the season – entries to be received by Friday 20th July.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 56 cows and calves, 2 in-calf heifers and a stock bull sold to a top of £2900 for a Pure Limousin heifer with her Limousin heifer calf from MM & R Morris, Maestanyglwyden. Also from the same home a Limousin x 1st calver with her Limousin heifer calf making £2400. the 6 outfits on offer from MM & R Morris averaged £2275 an outfit.

Next at £2300 was a Red Limousin x 1st calver with her Limousin heifer calf from DP & RE Evans, Moel Y Garth Farm. A black Hereford x 1st calver with her teim Limousin Bull & Heifer calves making £2050. Messrs Evans' 6 outfits averaged £1953. JJ & P Carruthers, Mynydducha, presented a British Blue x 1st calver with her Limousin x heifer calf making £2000.

F J Owens & Co, Llettygynfach, presented 6 outfits topping at £1700 for a Welsh Black x Blonde 2014 born cow with her Blonde x heifer calf.

NPTC Group, Fronlas Farm, presented a run of 10 cows and calves topping at £1780 for a 2014 born British Blue cow with her Charolais x male calf. A 2010 born British Blue x cow with her Charolais x male calf made £1700.

a breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2300 3 lots, £2000 - £2300 5 lots, £1800 - £2000 4 lots, £1600 - £1800 6 lots, £1400 - £1600 14 lots, £1200 - £1400 15 lots, £1000 - £1200 7 lots.

STORE CATTLE

an entry of 177 store cattle saw averages of 228.15ppkg or £1055.84 per head for steers and heifers averaged 231.05ppkg or £982.82 per head. Leading the way with top prices per head were:
