Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (12)

an entry of 12 otms this week saw a top of £1180.41 (147ppkg) for a Limousin Otm weighing in at 803kg from G I Francis & Co, The Bryn. IE & M Gittins, Lower Ucheldre, presented a 600kg Limousin otm making £924 (154ppkg). Younger cows (48-72months) topped at £1117.40 (148ppkg) for a 755kg Limousin from JI & JE Williams, Llwyn Y Brain. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1131.60 (164ppkg) for a 690kg Angus from M R Williams, Wern Holding.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (4)  141.24ppkg / £954.42.

Cows 48-72 months (x3) 143.29ppkg / £991.08.

Heifers Under 48 months (x2) 156.13ppkg / £1003.13.

Steers 48 – 72 months (x2) 121.91ppkg / £1098.44.

Bulls under 72 months (x1) 148ppkg /  £1805.60.

Overall Average 140.89ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (3279)

An entry of 3279 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 210.68ppkg.

Lights (416) to 224ppkg from Edwards & Co, Abertwymyn. Others to 207 ppkg from G Jones, Dolcoion. Average of 197.19ppkg.

Standards (929) to 287ppkg  from Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen. Others to 276ppkg from H Hughes & Son, Hendy.  Average of 206.42ppkg.

Mediums (1758) to 298ppkg from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage. Others to 293ppkg from D P Casewell, Tanrhiw. Average of  206.42ppkg.

Heavies (155) to 248ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 242ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 218.51ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2252)

An entry of 2252 culls this week saw averages of £62.07 for ewes (up £7 on last week) and £77.62 for rams. Trade was sharper throughout, well flesh welsh were very much in demand and good mule ewes were reaching between £85 - £95 mark. Ewes peaked at £128 from TH, ME & EJ Jones, Plas Coch. A pen of 12 ewes from D & S Jones, Brynglas, reached £120. also selling to £120 was T H Vaughan & Son, Maesmochnant. COWS & CALVES

AN entry of 29 cows and calves this week saw a top of £2200 for a Red Limousin x 1st calver with her Limousin heifer calf from DP & RE Evans, Moel-y-Garth Farm. Also from the same home were 3 other Limousi n x 1st calvers with Limousin calves selling for £1520, £1640 and £1530 respectively.

RLG Edwards, Trewylan Dairy, sold 6 outfits to a top of £1680 for a 2012 Born Limousin x cow with her Charolais x heifer calf . The 6 outfits off Mr Edwards averaged £1360. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 1lot, £1600 - £2000 4 lots, £1400 - £1600 13 lots, £1200 - £1400 6 lots, £1000 - £1200 4 lots, <£1000 1 lot.
