Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (25)

An entry of 25 OTMs this week saw a top price of £1179.31 (151ppkg) for a British Blue x OTM weighing in at 781kg from D H & M A Lewis, Pinion,  D I & D M Jerman, Moelywigoedd also had top price with 140ppkg for a 735kg Blonde D’Aquitaine x OTM making £1029. Younger cows (48-72months) topped at £876.74 (118ppkg) for a British Blue x weighing 743kg from A G Williams & Son, Plassau Farm.  C A Wildbore, Carreghofa also had a top price of 117ppkg for a 685kg Friesian x making £801.45. Heifers under 48 months topped at £910.80 (132ppkg) for a 690kg Limousin x from P H Holloway & Son, Mount Farm.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (16) 119.72ppkg / £777.86.

Cows 48-72 months (4) 102.87ppkg / £661.45.

Heifers Under 48 months (4) 108.44ppkg / £624.87.

Overall Average 116.41ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (3749)

An entry of 3749 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 185.80ppkg.

Lights (987) to 215ppkg from L B Owen, Garth Vaughan. Others to 208ppkg from M Davies, Caerafon. Average of 185.66ppkg.

Standards (1635) to 221ppkg from C L & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Others to 206ppkg from Aled Lloyd Davies, Ty Brith.  Average of 188.23ppkg.

Mediums (523) to 192ppkg from P R Evans, Fachwen and also from C L & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Average of 185.31ppkg.

Heavies (35) to 178ppkg from Fachwen Farms, Awelfa. Others to 176ppkg from C Watkin, Bronygarth. Average of 169.59ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2277)

An entry of 2252 cull ewes which achieved an average of £48.73. Today saw a limited supply of well fleshed fat ewes, which were very much in demand. Ewes peaked at £138, as usual excellent ewes presented by R A Davies, Llwynderw. T Davies & Partners, Red House also presented excellent texel ewes achieving a premium of £131. Overall the good fleshed ewes sold well throughout, whilst poorer ewes were in far less demand which was reflected in the average.

COWS & CALVES (16)

An entry of 16 cows and calves this week saw a top of £1760 for a British Blue x Cow with her British Blue x bull calf from F M & S J Jones, Caebardd Farm. Also from the same home were 3 other outfits with British Blue x calves selling for £1280, £1460 and £1450 respectively.

F J Owens & Co, Llettygynfach, sold 3 outfits to a top of £1530 for a 2013 born Blonde D’Aquitaine x cow with her Limousin x bull calf. The 3 outfits off Mr Owens averaged £1410.

M R Williams, Wern Holding sold a Limousin x 1st Calver with a Limousin x calf for £1530.

A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £1600+ 1 lot, £1400 - £1600 7 lots, £1200 - £1400 5 lots, <£1000 2 lots.
