OTMS (11)
An entry of 4 OTMs this week saw a top price of £1025.10 (134ppkg) for a Welsh Black x OTM weighing in at 765kg from I Francis, Bryndu, I Francis, also reached 130ppkg for a 781kg Welsh Black x OTM making £1015.30. Younger cows (48-72months) topped at £1110.44 (142ppkg) for a Stabiliser x weighing 782kg from T & A & R Tudor, Llysun. R A Meddins, Hafod also had a top price of 121ppkg for a 679kg Limousin x making £821.59. Heifers under 48 months topped at £928.80 (135ppkg) for a Simmental x heifer weighing 688kg from T & A & R Tudur, Llysun.

Bulls (1) 124ppkg / £1395
Cows 48-72 months (2) 132.24ppkg / £966.02.
Heifers Under 48 months (2) 143.97ppkg / £986.90.
Overall Average 127.20ppkg.
PRIME LAMBS (4124)
An entry of 4124 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 179.65ppkg.
Lights (933) to 195ppkg from R H Clifton, Marchville. Others to 194ppkg from E Jones, Cefn Coch Isaf. Average of 176.36ppkg.
Standards (1571) to 218ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 214ppkg from D L Jones & Son, Falcondale Home Farm. Average of 183.12ppkg.
Mediums (925) to 203ppkg from R A Jones, Red Gwenthrew. Others to 198ppkg from W R B Jones, Brynawelon and also from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 182.05ppkg.
Heavies (242) to 194ppkg from D L Jones & Son, Falcondale Home Farm. Others to 191ppkg from G P Pugh & Son, The Garth. Average of 176.10ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (3508)
An entry of 3508 ewes saw an excellent trade today. Ewes averaged £61, this was up £12 on last weeks trade. A strong show of ewes were present. Ewes topped at £140, as usual an excellent pen of ewes presented by Red House Farm, Aberhafesp, closely followed by ewes presented by H & E Powell, Llwyngwilym. Overall well fleshed ewes were much in demand.

COWS & CALVES (27)
A slightly harder day in the cow and calf ring as the continued lack of rain and shortage of grass affected the trade for the first time this season. A 2013 Limousin cow with a Limousin heifer calf at foot sold for £1580, presented by J R Lewis & Co Fferm, from the same home was a Limousin cow with a bull calf which made £1500. A 2008 born cow with a bull calf sold at £1400. Presented by L H Lomas & Son, Manor Farm was a Limousin x British Blue cow with a bull which sold for £1420. Two British Blue x 1st calvers with Limousin x heifer calves at foot sold for £1300 a piece presented by A Worthington, Castell.
A Pedigree Limousin breeding bull born 16.05.2016 presented by V S Lance, Upper Grimmer sold for £3500.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows:
£1500+ 3 Lots, £1400 –£1500 3 Lots, £1200-£1400 – 9 Lots, £1000-£1200 – 7 Lots, <£1000 – 7 Lots
STORE LAMBS (238)
An increased entry of 238 lambs again sold to a bouyant trade despite the current weather conditions.
Texel x tup lambs from F R Williams, Cefn Coch took top price selling for £60.50. Other lambs from Cefn Canol sold for £48 and £47.
Mixed and clean lambs from P Robinson, Upper Trefnant reached £53.50 with others from the same home selling to £50.50.
Ewe lambs hit £50.50 for 5 Beltex x from D W P Griffiths, Park Lodge.
Perspective purchases are clearly after short term keeping lambs that can go straight on to hoppers.
