Welshpool Livestock Sales
Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross on Monday when 13,271 sheep were all penned in the market by 8.30am with minimal queuing and an excellent company of buyers.
OTMS (18)
An entry of 14 OTMs this week saw a top price of £1157.94 (126ppkg) for a Limousin x OTM weighing in at 919kg from E O & G Evans, Penllyn. J A Williams, Llechwedd-Ddyrys, reached 140ppkg for a 792kg Charolais x OTM making £1108.80. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1162.32 (167ppkg) for a Limousin x heifer weighing 696kg from T E Thomas & Co, Melin Y Grug. E H Bennett, Trellwydion also reached 175ppkg for a Limousin x heifer weighting 536kg.

Bulls (1) 120ppkg / £1000.80
Heifers Under 48 months (3) 157.80ppkg / £943.64
Overall Average 122.68ppkg.
PRIME LAMBS (7556)
A larger entry of 7556 prime lambs sold to an overall average of 184.28ppkg up on last weeks average.
Lights (1456) to 203ppkg from E W Jones, Tytanyfoel. Others to 201ppkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 180.15ppkg.
Standards (3280) to 229ppkg from D R Owen & Sons, Sandilands. Others to 209ppkg from D R Owen & Sons, Sandilands. Average of 187.50ppkg.
Mediums (1819) to 204ppkg from C E Pryce, Yr Helyg. Others to 202ppkg from T H Vaughan & Son, Maes Mochnant. Average of 186.89ppkg.
Heavies (520) to 321ppkg from S J Smith, Penybryn. Others to 189ppkg from D I Roberts & Son, Stingwern. Average of 180.20ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (4912)
A larger entry of 4771 ewes saw a very good trade on well fleshed ewes throughout. Mule ewes up to high 80's and fleshed strong Welsh and Cheviot x were achieving up to £70 .
Ewes averaged £48.50, with a large show of ewes present. Ewes topped at £139 from G L & S E Lloyd, Bryn Hyfryd, others reached £130 from S J Smith, Penybryn and D T A Williams, Upper Bolbro.
An entry of 158 Cull Rams saw an average of £67.07. Rams topped at £151 from D T A Williams, Upper Bolbro. Others reached £106.50 from D Gethin, Llanyhared.

BREEDING EWES
An entry of 500 Ewes hit ring 4 to a much faster trade after the weekend showers. Long distance travellers L R Morgan, Tygwyn Farm, Swansea presented 7 Pure Beltex yearlings that peaked at £200 and averaged £195.
10 Texel x yearlings from N L Pugh & Co, Longville reached £159 with others from the same home realising £144 and £140.
12 Texel x yearlings from P Jones & Son, Dolgwenith hit £155.
Another long distance traveller J L Morgan, Tynllwyn presented 2 pens of 20 Suffolk x yearlings that sold for £152 and £145.
A part flock reduction of Messrs Pritchard, Penysarn early lambing Suffolk x ewes were met with a fantastic trade. They peaked at £140 for 15 Suffolk x 3/4 year olds with 2 year old Suffolk x selling to £138 and £132 for further pens of 3/4 year olds. The whole run of 78 ewes averaged £131.
3 year old Texel x ewes from P R Evans & Son, Fachwen hit £147 with 3 year old Mules from the same home reaching £128.
Mule full mouth and as found ewes peaked at £92 from S Smith, Pentre Farm Cottage with others to £80 from C F Jones, Lower Cefnpenarth and J S Abel, Hendre Aur.

STORE LAMBS (200)
Slightly less lambs about although the quality of those entered were better than those of previous weeks.
Top price of the day went to M Pugh, Gilfach for a Beltex ram lamb that hit £67.
S Lane, New Hall presented 10 Texel x mixed and clean lambs that reached £60.50. Further lambs from the same stable hit £58.50 and £55 with the run of 54 lambs averaging £57.
A small entry of theave lambs peaked at £50.50 from E O Jones & Son, Berthllwyd.
