An independent organisation that represents the tourism and hospitality industry across Mid Wales was recognised at the Social Business Wales Awards 2018.

MWT Cymru was runner up in the Tech for Good: Technology in Social Enterprise category at the annual awards held at Cardiff City Hall last week.

Company chairman Rowland Rees-Evans said: “We are delighted to be recognised for the work that we do to pull together hundreds of small businesses in the tourism industry for marketing purposes.

“As a social enterprise supporting businesses in rural Wales, we are proud of our team’s expertise at developing digital media to help promote tourism in the region.”

Formed in 1991, MWT Cymru is based in Machynlleth and has around 550 members in its core area of Powys, Ceredigion and Meirionnydd. The company delivers a range of marketing activities and project work to support the development of a strong and sustainable tourism industry in Mid Wales.

This autumn, MWT Cymru is launching a Mid Wales Live Streaming social media campaign, supported by Visit Wales’ Tourism Product Innovation Fund, which will highlight the region as a great place to visit.

“We look for best ways to lead innovation, helping our member businesses to understand today’s digital tourist and use new and emerging digital technologies,” said MWT Cymru’s chief executive Val Hawkins.

“The way visitors communicate, create, collaborate, share information, purchase and complete other transactions has altered dramatically and MWT Cymru understands the digital landscape and underlying technology that has transformed the tourism sector.

“Innovative use and continual investment in digital technology is core to our success and we employ an award-winning tourism e-tourism technology platform which provides a one-stop-shop for all our destination management functions.”

The company’s online visitor channels generate 1.4 million page views per month.
