Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (23)
A slightly smaller number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £1145.12 (136ppkg) for a Charolais x OTM weighing in at 842kg from B H Evans & Son, Rowton Grange. E Jones & Son, Penbontpren reached 140ppkg for a 665kg Limousin x OTM making £931. Under 72 month Bulls reached £1252.80 (144ppkg) for a Limousin Bull weighing in at 870kg from M & A Powell, Drefor Farm. Younger cows (48-72months) topped a £882.65 (139ppkg) for a Limousin x weighing 635kg from T P Jerman, Church Farm. Heifers under 48 months topped at £931 (140ppkg) for a British Blue x heifer weighing 665kg from W T Jones & Co, Croesllwyn. C Woosnam & T A Mathias, Forest reached 170ppkg for a 529kg British Blue x heifer making £899.30.
Averages of the day were as follows:
OTM Cows (10) 121.61ppkg / £819.62.
Under 72 months Bulls (1) 144ppkg / £1252.80.
Cows 48-72 Months (6) 124.42ppkg / £807.71.
Heifers Under 48 months (6) 135.74ppkg / £774.43.
Overall Average 126.90ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (3372)
A smaller number of lambs forward sold to an average of £173.46ppkg which was a sharper trade for all weights and grades of lambs. Yet again better meated lambs sold to must demand with these selling up to a top price of 211ppkg. Most improvement was for the mid range export weight lambs. Again least demand was for any leaner lambs.
Lights (255) to 173ppkg from D W Davies & Co, Peniarth. Others to 169ppkg from D W, V M & J W Jennings, Castellan Farm. Average of 158.29ppkg.
Standards (864) to 188ppkg from B Llewellyn, Great Brithdir. Others to 185ppkg from F L Jones & Son, Fferm. Average of 168.91ppkg.
Mediums (1528) to 211ppkg from T G & E A Jones, Blaenwaen Ganol. Also to 210ppkg from the same home. Average of 177.48ppkg.
Heavies (562) to 192ppkg from C E Pryce, Yr Helyg. Others to 190ppkg from T P & D E Pryce, Timber Yard. Average of 170.92ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2454)
An entry of 2454 ewes up on last week’s entry. Ewes were in slightly more demand however, this was not reflected in an overall average of £36, £2 down on last week.
Ewes of good fleshing and confirmation were as usual very much in demand, with a shortage of well fleshed ewes. Ewes peaked at £124 presented by E Bailey, Bryncoch.
An entry of Rams achieved an average of £66, achieving up to £200 presented E & D Jones, Lluestwen.
Overall unfleshed small ewes were hard sold with very little demand.

COWS & CALVES
There was a slighty sharper trade in the cow and calf section with some more competition for the better outfits.
Leading the way was I P Jones, Ddol Fawr with a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin heifer calf selling for £1780. A British Blue x 1st calver with a Limousin x bull calf made £1750 whilst a Limousin x heifer with a heifer calf sold for £1700, all from the same home.
8 outfits from I P Jones averaged at over £1500. 3 outfits from F J Owens & Co, being Blonde d'Aquitaine x cows with Limousin x calves at foot sold from £1220 - £1250.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows:-
£1500+ 3 lots, £1400-£1500 4 lots, £1200-£1400 5 lots, £1000-£1200 2 lots, <£1000 11 lots
BREEDING EWES
A large number of late entries let to ring 4 seeing in excess of 1000 breeding ewes which proved slighty easier trade than of in previous weeks.
Trade peaked at £205 for 5 pure Texel yearling ewes from W L & J A Forrester, Tremlows Farm. With others from the same home reaching £185 and £162.
The sale was dominated by Welsh and Mule types including top price for 3 year olds being £73 for 14 Mules from D Rowlands, Pentre Celyn. 2 year old ewes peaked at the same price from J Lewis & Son, Penyffynon for Texels.
Smaller entry of ewe lambs topped at £82 for 3 Texels from A M Jones, Middle Farm with Mules from the same home reaching £78 and £76.
Large entry of As Found ewes saw Mules selling to £68 from A Pugh, Garthbwt, and Welsh selling to £58 from J T Davies, Upper Cilgee.

Theave lambs sold to £65 from W & A Jones & Son, Cwmfedw with others to £52 from D D & M J Evans, Pantwynthrew.
Mixed and Clean lambs sold to £65 from Gittins & Co, Giants Bank. With others to £64.50 from A P & G S L Davies, Blaenyglyn.
Wether lambs peaked at £39 from E L Pugh, Glanrafon with others to £36.50.
Tup lambs top £71.50 from H M Rogers, Upper House. With others selling to £63 from D D & M J Evans, Pantwynthrew.
Overall average - £51.61
