Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a busy sale at Buttington Cross on Welshpool.
OTMS (46)
A larger number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £823.10 (106ppkg) for a British Blue x OTM weighing in at 785kg from C M A Botwood, Gwrid Farm. D A Davies, Penybanc reached 125ppkg for a Limousin x weighing 610kg making £762.50. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped a £1117.50 (150ppkg) for a Charolais x weighing 745kg from R O Williams & Sons, Caerddaniel Farm. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1085 (140ppkg) for a Charolais x heifer weighing 775kg from R O Williams & Sons, Caerddaniel Farm. E Birch, Red House reached 163ppkg for a 549kg Charolais x steer under 48 months making £894.87.
Averages of the day were as follows:
OTM Cows (28) 93.86ppkg / £596.35.
Cows 48-72 Months (5) 115.47ppkg / £766.70.
Heifers Under 48 months (8) 113.32ppkg / £655.56.
Steers Under 48 Months (3) 155.30ppkg / £938.03.
Bull Under 72 Months (1) 140ppkg / £1164.80.
Overall Average 104.68ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (3752)
A smaller number of lambs forward sold to an average of 167.35ppkg with a top price of 205ppkg.
Lights (337) to 170ppkg from J P Jones, Gwastadgoed. Others to 164ppkg from R G K Hodnett, Willey House. Average of 147.99ppkg.
Standards (1033) to 203ppkg from D E Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Others to 192ppkg from J A Gwalchmai, Minffordd and also from R L Owen, Tanycoed. Average of 165.44ppkg.
Mediums (1409) to 205ppkg from Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn. Also to 200ppkg from D E Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Average of 171.60ppkg.
Heavies (732) to 191ppkg from G & S Jones, Bryneithin. Others to 184ppkg from J W Hopkins, Bank Farm. Average of 161.62ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2350)
An entry of 2350 cull ewes achieved an average of £40.61. This was very similar to last week. Smaller Welsh ewes which were well fleshed sold well, with Welsh ewes well into the £40s. Once again well fleshed bigger ewes were again very much in demand. Ewes peaked at £112 presented by J A Gwalchmai, Maesglas for excellent well fleshed Charollais x ewes, overall trade was sharper on all well fleshed killing type ewes.

BREEDING EWES
A similar number of entries this week seeing roughly 950 breeding ewes and breeding lambs entering ring 4.
Trade peaked at £105 for yearling ewes from H & S Watkins, Cammen Uchaf with others reaching £100 from D W Davies.
The sale was dominated by Welsh and Mules stock including two year olds peaking at £90 from JP & EM Jones, Penygraig.
As found ewes peaked at £52 from M R Partridge, Ffoddlas with others to £49 from the same home.
Full mouth ewes reached £48 from LK & G Davies, Hillcroft with others to £40 from D Straw.
Breeding ewe lambs saw a maximum price of £88 from W R L Price & Co, Pencwm, with others from the same home reaching £83.

STORE LAMBS
A larger entry of over 1300 store lambs this Monday reaching £76.
Theave lambs sold to £63 from H M Rogers, Upper House with others reaching £62 from G A Jones.
Mixed and clean lambs sold to £68 from D W Davies, Penybank with others to £63 from AV & JE Jones.
Tup lambs topped at £76 from E LL Jones, Brynwaeddan with others to £66.50 from H C Lewis.
Overall average - £53.31
