PRIME HOGGETS (3309)

A similar entry of hoggets forward sold to a very similar trade to last week to return an average of 202.47ppkg, with a top price of 240ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 35kg hoggets making £84 from CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn and £108.50/head for 47kg and 52kg hoggets from TK Robinson, Tynewydd.

Trade would be better than expected throughout, as other livestock markets returned lower averages for finished hoggs at the end of last week. Demand for all weights and grades exceeded supply which resulted in competitve bidding throughout the sale. Best trade of the day was for the best quality/grading hoggs of any weight. Export weight hoggs found keen bidding throughout with plenty of pens selling above 210ppkg. Also in strong demand were middle weight 30-40kg hoggs with yet again the better end going back on farm for further finishing. Light weight lambs were in short supply and sold at very similar price levels to last week. Least demand was for the heavier lambs which would be sold at slightly less money.

Lights (340) to 221ppkg from Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn. Others to 219ppkg from DL Jones & Son, Falcondale Home Farm. Average of 187.62ppkg.

Standards (944) to 240ppkg from CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn. Others to 231ppkg from Bowen & Bowen, Penthryn. Average of 200.74ppkg.

Mediums (1056) to 235ppkg from IE Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant. Others to 234ppkg from TK Robinson, Tynewydd.  Average of 207.08ppkg.
