Gaining an MBA online

21/06/2019 @ 11:12

A groundbreaking set of new postgraduate programmes – delivered entirely online by Wrexham Glyndwr University – have welcomed their first students this week.

The three new online Master of Business Administration (MBA) qualifications were opened to students earlier this year, with the first students beginning their course this week. The programmes are delivered entirely online – and students can choose from three programmes: MBA, MBA Human Resource Management and MBA Marketing.

Among the current student cohort are a number of students studying the programme internationally – with students in Canada, Australia, America and Europe.

They have joined students from across North Wales, North West England and the rest of the UK on the course, which has been designed to build on Glyndwr’s considerable expertise in flexible and career-focused courses. More than half of the university’s students study part-time, often alongside their working life.

Aulay Mackenzie, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Partnerships at Wrexham Glyndwr University said: “When we launched these MBA programmes, we said they were designed to give working professionals across both the UK and the world the opportunity to gain a flexible MBA from Wrexham Glyndwr University – anytime, anywhere and on any device.

“With a  new student cohort now beginning their studies – and students from across the globe among them – that ambition is beginning to be realised. Industry-led courses like this are at the heart of what we do here at Glyndwr and that’s something we believe has contributed to our leading employability scores in recent years.”

The flexible programme design provides a choice of six start dates per year, allowing students to begin studying within weeks, and a pay-per module option is also available, spreading the costs over the duration of study.

Following the successful launch of the programmes, a further four MBA courses in Finance, Project Management, Entrepreneurship and Health Management are set to join the university’s portfolio from September this year.

Project Manager for the new online programmes, Laura Gough, said: “Welcoming our first cohort onto these programmes is just one of the latest ways we are diversifying at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

“Building these new programmes has been a real university-wide team effort, and I’d particularly like to thank the staff in the North Wales Business School for their input – the first three  courses have proved a hit with students and bode well for the next phase of MBA programmes which launches this Autumn.”

And Programme Leader Dr Alexis Mason added: “Designing and implementing a postgraduate qualification that is delivered entirely online means that Glyndwr can help people to take the next step in developing their careers. The way the course is taught means that our students are just as likely to be based in one of our local industries as they are in Australia – what unites our students is that they want to get a high-quality MBA in a manner that suits them.

“Starting teaching the course this week has been a milestone for the North Wales Business School and we’re looking forward to offering even more choice when the new courses launch in September.”
