PRIME LAMBS (3140)

An entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 192.85ppkg, with a top price of 222ppkg, firstly for pen of lambs weighing 45kg making £100 from AE Casewell, Bodynfoel and secondly for 42.5kg lambs making £94.50 for Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen. Top price per head was £109 for 63kg lambs from ML & RI Davies, Caecappin.

A similar number of lambs forward sold to a similar trade compared to last monday which is pleasing considering the drop in the trade throughout last week. In most demand today was the well-bred lighter weight lambs between 32-36kg which constatly sold around £2 per kilo. Also in keen demand were the very light under 30kg lambs (of which there were few on offer) and also the better bred, better meated heavier weight lambs which found competitive throughout. With the forthcoming ethnic festival in August hopefully trade in the coming weeks will improve.
