A company formed by two Welshpool area businessmen has landed another major contract to create a Fiber City in the United Sates.

International fiberoptic network developer SiFi Networks (SiFi), whose aim is to revolutionise the North American telecoms market, was formed by Mike Harris previously of Total Network Solutions and now chairman of The New Saints FC along with Roland Pickstock of The Pickstock Group.

After Fullerton signed up to become the city with the biggest network of its kind in America, thanks to Sifi, comes the news that Placentia is the latest to agree to become a Fiber City.

Five members of the City Council voted unanimously to grant permission for SiFi Networks to construct the fiber optic network throughout the city.

“We’re excited to enhance the quality and availability of internet access for all Placentia residents and businesses,” said Mayor Rhonda Shader.

“The deployment of citywide fiber optic gives residents’ access to the fastest and best technology available.” she added.

When complete, the fiber network will serve every residential and business property in the City with unrivalled superfast internet which is technological sustainable.

Placentia will also benefit from the ability to develop and sustain Smart City applications to improve the City’s services, transportation and environment to name just a few of the possibilities.

SiFi Networks has started to construct its fiber optic network in the neighboring City of Fullerton which will see the first homes equipped with fiber and residents benefitting from extraordinary simultaneous internet speeds within the next few months.

Ben Bawtree-Jobson, CEO of SiFi Networks said: “We believe that our business model can transform the telecoms market in the USA.

“Privately funded, open access networks will not only benefit residents and businesses, but also provide citywide platforms for Smart City applications including 5G and more.

“The network will provide a significant upgrade to internet speeds and accommodate the growing demand for data from next generation devices in households and businesses.
