Welshpool Livestock Sales report on the sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (45)

A similar number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £932.40 (ppkg) for a Limousin  x OTM weighing in at 740kg from JH & ML Breeze, South Moelygarth. GW Jones, Henfryn made 132ppkg for a Limousin x weighing 642kg making £847.44. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £931.50 (135ppkg) for a Limousin x weighing 690kg from A Roberts & Son, Dolau.  DH Tilsley, Fox Hill made 121ppkg for a Salers x weighing 747kg making £903.87. Heifers under 48 months topped at £859.95 (117ppkg) for a heifer weighing 735kg from FL Jones & Son, Fferm.

Cows 48-72 Months (8) 98.73ppkg / £649.13

PRIME LAMBS (4254).

An entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 169.23ppkg, with a top price of 206ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 42.5kg making £87.50 from BE & BE Langford, Llettymeibion, and £94.50/head for 56kg lambs from Probert & Probert, Lower Hill.

A similar number of lambs forward sold to a better trade with competitive bidding for all weights and grades . Again better quality, better shaped , well fleshed lambs were in most demand selling up to a top price of 206p/kg from M/s Langford ,Llettymeibion. More competitive bidding was found on the export weight lambs (39-45kilos) than in recent weeks with plenty of these selling around the 180 p/kg. Not too many Lighter weight lambs on offer today and again these sold well with a good number going back out on farm as store lambs. Heavier weight lambs again found a decent demand with the 55+ kilo better bred lambs generally selling over £90. Vendors are encouraged to keep drawing lambs especially the well meated lambs.

Lights (180) to 180ppkg from IRH Bebb, Ffridd Gowny. Others to 175ppkg from RL Davies, Trawsgelli. Average of 162.58ppkg.

Standards (754) to 180ppkg from J & F Edwards, Cefnbraich. Others to 179ppkg from CR Pryce, Pentre Farm. Average of 166.1ppkg.

Mediums (1808) to 206ppkg from BE & BE Langford, Llettymeibion. Others to 204ppkg from TG & EA Jones, Blaenwaen Ganol.  Average of 170.79ppkg.

Heavies (1227) to 191ppkg from D Pryce, Llancowrid. Others to 187ppkg from BE & BE Langford, Llettymeibion. Average of 161.66ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1987)

This week we saw a reduced entry of 1928 cull ewes that met a strong trade once again with an overall average of £49.34 being achieved (+£2.46 on the week). The trade was very similar to last week, in fact the heaviest Texel and Suffolk ewes on the yard were dearer by about £5-8 with many pens exceeding £85. WL & JA Forrester, Twemlows Farm presented a terrific run of Texel ewes with a top price of £133 being achieved and the whole consignment averaged a fantastic £128.71 with the other pens selling for £129 and £123.

Cull rams met a strong trade once again with an overall average of £69.30 being achieved and the top price of £205 going to DL Jones, Ddol.

1800 ewes again sold above expectation on the breeding sales draw to a close.

Texel yearlings to £260, £225, £190 and £185, Speckles to £105, £92 and £90, Mules to £128, £120 and £116, Welsh to £76 and £64 and Lleyn to £108.

Two year old Texels to £78, Suffolks to £118, Mules to £84, Beulah to £88 and Aberfields to £122.

Three year old Speckles to £54, Mules to £81 and £72, Welsh to £98, Beulah to £72 and £70 and Lleyn to £86.

Full mouth Texels to £105, Suffolks to £74, Speckles to £60, Mules to £85 and Welsh to £98 twice, £97 and £90, Beulah to £68 and Lleyn to £68.

As found Speckles to £56, Welsh to £71 and Cheviots to £50.

Texel ewe lambs to £98, £95 and £92 twice, Suffolks to £88 x3, £86 and £84, Speckles to £56 and £49, Mules to £92, £88 x4 and £82, Welsh to £70 and £66 and Blue Faced Leicester to £82 and £80.

Another seasonal entry of 800 that again sold to a good trade bringing an overall average of £52.29.

Texel theaves to £61 and £60, Suffolks to £60.50 and £56, Speckles to £52, Welsh to £32 and Charollais to £59.50.

Texel wethers to £49 and Zwartbles to £54.

Texel tups to £71.50 twice, £66 and £63, Suffolks to £67.50, £62 and £59.50, Speckles to £40, Mules to £55, £53 and £51, Welsh to £63, £54.50 and £50, Beltex to £62 and £63, Charollais to £57, Kerry's to £55.50 and Zwartbles to £56.50.
