Businesses in the Welshpool area looking to safeguard or increase their workforce will be able to take advantage of a new grant scheme set to be introduced.

This morning, the Powys Administration Group on Powys County Council announced that it has agreed to expand the existing Business Support Grants Scheme by introducing a Business Expansion Grant Scheme. This new support scheme will be taken forward by the Administration’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Culture, Councillor Wynne Jones.

Administration spokesperson Councillor Dawn Bailey said: “Administration members feel more must be done to support them and also to create extra jobs. Members feel that it is important this extra support is introduced immediately.”

Councillor Jones added: “I am delighted that Councillors from the Administration Group have pledged their support for business and I shall be taking this forward by introducing an Expansion Grant Scheme for Business which will provide capital grants of up to £5,000, at an intervention rate of 50%, to assist with capital equipment purchases which will lead to a current job being safeguarded or a new job being created. I shall be taking steps to introduce this extra support scheme within the next week.”
