The West Brom on Severn Street has unveiled a new, modernised look at its Welshpool branch which it claims will provide an improved service to the community.

The building society has enjoyed a major upgrade which includes power assisted entry doors to allow for easier access, a larger banking hall, redesigned counters and refurbished private meeting space.

Branch manager Sarah Allen said: “The investment demonstrates our commitment to the town and means we have now completed modernisation at all our branches in mid Wales and Shropshire.  Customers have welcomed the updated design and better access.  Our improved facilities also enable us to raise the standard of service we offer.”

The new look means an alternative home has been found for the branch’s ceramic wall mural which depicts local landmarks including Powis Castle and the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway.

The Society has donated the distinctive artwork to Powysland Museum at Canal Wharf to ensure local people can continue to see it. The mural has gone on show on the first floor alongside displays about the history of Montgomeryshire.

Curator Eva Bredsdorff said: “I think it’s a lovely piece of artwork that colourfully brings to life a number of significant local landmarks.  The quality and condition is fantastic, despite the mural being more than 30 years old, and we’re pleased that Welshpool people can continue to enjoy it.”

The West Brom is a leading regional building society and provides a broad range of financial products and services, notably savings, investments and residential mortgages.
