Tesco has no plans to open a cafe in its Welshpool store, rubbishing rumours that it was about to replace its clothes section.
The store opened last year in a blaze of publicity and has become popular with Welshpool shoppers, but it has stuck to its opening pledge that a cafe will not be incorporated into its premises.
A Tesco HQ spokesperson told us “this is not true” which will be a relief to the Marston’s pub and restaurant due to open soon across the road called, The Smithfield Bell.
Meanwhile, there's no sign of any takers for the Phase Two shop unit development which has taken up a huge section of the Tesco car park, leaving a terrible eye sore of 10-foot blue fencing right next to the popular canal beauty spot.
