Fifty jobs secured in town

Car parts for French auto giant Renault will be manufactured in Welshpool, and the £4million contract has safeguarded up to 50 jobs at Trax JH Limited.

The Severn Farm Industrial Estate-based company has been hit by the global squeeze in the car market and has lost more than 50% of its workforce as a result, but the huge contract to supply wheel balance weights has been celebrated by staff.

The four-year contract is to supply zinc weights to Renault and Dacia cars to be made in France, Spain, Russia, Slovenia, Turkey, India, Columbia, Brazil and Argentina.

Managing Director John Hallé said the deal could lead to more contracts coming to Welshpool.

He said: “This is welcome news, and it’s a secure bit of business. The company is particularly pleased to be supplying the growth markets of Brazil, Russia and India.”

Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies welcomed the news by saying that Finance Wales had “played a blinder” in securing the deal.

Trax moved to Welshpool in 1993 after it was bought out by Proform before Mr Hallé, who set the business up in 1989 in Milton Keynes, bought it back in 1993.
