MyTown wins NESTA grant

Champagne corks have been popping at MyTown’s HQ today after NESTA, the UK’s innovation foundation, selected us as one of only 10 organisations to receive grant funding as the next generation of local media.

MyTown was one of 165 applicants from across the UK for the Destination Local programme, which was launched to support dynamic sustainable media projects.

And despite the incredibly high competition, your free source of local news and information was regarded by the external panel of expert judges to be at the leading edge of delivering local media, and with this new grant support we will become even more state-of-the-art.

So what does this mean to you?

Basically it is great news for us all!

As you know we have invested considerable resources into both mywelshpool and mynewtown over the past two years to cope with demand.

But fast moving new technology means that we have to stay on our toes and we can now create and implement the very latest in mobile technology to compliment the on-line experience you will still enjoy.

It also means that we can accelerate our expansion programme into new towns and territories so more people can enjoy the sort of service you have embraced since we started in August 2010.

It is fantastic news for not only the Welshpool and Newtown areas but for the people of Mid Wales as a whole.

The support of you, our thousands of readers, and that of our incredible advertisers is genuinely and wholeheartedly appreciated and this grant support will allow us to serve you all even better in the future.

So look out for some fantastic new developments over the summer.
