Back this weekend’s broadband test

17/08/2012 @ 09:43

Mywelshpool urges our readers to conduct a very simply broadband speed test this weekend which could ultimately help the area secure much faster access to the internet.

The Monty Broadband campaign, launched by Russell George AM last month, culminates in a broadband speed test this weekend when anyone with an internet connection is asked to test their speed via the www.montybroadband.com site.

In what is one of the largest broadband speed tests of its kind to be undertaken in a specific region, Mr George will use the speed tests to highlight areas that need better broadband.

The campaign has the backing of eXwavia, a Welshpool-based wireless Internet Service Provider, the Federation of Small Businesses, Mid Wales Manufacturing Group (MWMG), Farmers Union of Wales and NFU Cymru among others.

“Broadband is vital for rural communities such as Montgomeryshire. It’s a utility just like electricity or the telephone – a service that we all need,” said Mr George.
Local businesswoman Annette Burgess of eXwavia, said: “We’re working with several communities to bring fast and reliable broadband and we’ve delivered to places such as Adfa and Cefn Coch where businesses and residents can now connect with a speed of 4Mbps or even 60Mbps.

“But we’re supporting the Monty Broadband campaign because nobody really knows how bad it is in some communities. By undertaking the speed test this weekend we’ll have a much clearer picture allowing our AM to identify where pressure needs to be placed to improve broadband provision.”
