Another slide in local paper sales

30/08/2012 @ 10:29

There was more grim news for local newspaper sales this week after the latest industry-recognised sales figures showed the decline not only continues, but appears to be speeding up.

Not a single daily paid-for regional newspaper in the UK increased in circulation while only 14 weekly regional titles saw an increase.

The local figures paint a particularly gloomy picture with the Shropshire Star suffering a 10.6% decline in daily sales, while the County Times dropped below 15,000 weekly sales with a 1.9% slide.

Flagship Welsh titles like the Western Mail and the Daily Post are under pressure after reporting declines in sales of 5.6% and 3.8% respectively. The Western Mail’s daily sales are down to 24,435.

Meanwhile, mywelshpool and mynewtown continue to attract incredible visitor figures showing the area’s increasing appetite for online news as it happens.
