Events bring big business chance

The chief executive of an organisation that represents around 600 tourism businesses in Mid Wales is urging members to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities presented by two major sporting events visiting the region today and tomorrow,Saturday.
 
Val Hawkins from Mid Wales Tourism says she hopes the public turns out in force to welcome motorsport world champion and Olympic medallists as the Wales Rally GB and The Tour of Britain arrives in the region.
 
“These are two huge sporting events that attract thousands of visitors and the eyes of the world will be focused on Mid Wales for a couple of days,” she said. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for tourism businesses to showcase the region and hopefully many of the visitors will be encouraged to return for holidays in the future.”
 
While eight-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb will be competing in the classic Dyfnant, Hafren, Sweet Lamb and Myherin tests in the Wales Rally GB, the 2012 Tour de France winner and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins and 2011 Sports Personality of the Year and world road race champion Mark Cavendish will be taking part in stage six of The Tour of Britain.
 
For the second year running, The Tour of Britain's Welsh stage will start from the beautiful surroundings of the National Trust's Powis Castle, on the outskirts of Welshpool.
 
Spectators will be able to access the Powis Castle estate from 8am on Friday, September 14 and should follow signs and marshals instructions to free car parking. The cyclists set off at 10.30am and complete a loop of Welshpool before heading to Leighton, Forden, Montgomery, Kerry, Newtown, Gwynant, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells, Cwm Owen, Epynt, Brecon, Libanus, Storey Arms, Penderyn, Hirwaun, Aberdare, Mountain Ash, Ystrad Mynach, Nelson, Llanbradach and finally Caerphilly.
 
 The timings in Mid Wales are: Abermule 11.07am, Kerry 11.17am, Newtown 11.22am, Llanbister 11.57am, Llandrindod Wells 12.17pm, Builth Wells 12.33pm, Cwm Owen 12.34pm, Brecon 1.06pm and Brecon Beacons 1.25pm.
 
The sporting greats reach Newtown around midday on Friday, with the World Rally crews stopping in the town for remote service.
