A Welshpool-based company which provides sausages to troops on the frontline in Afghanistan has won more national recognition.
The Welsh Sausage Company (Langfords) is celebrating after claiming one of the top awards in the BPEX Foodservice Sausage of the Year competition.
Their ‘Red Tractor Lincolnshire Breakfast Pork Sausage’ was one of 15 chosen to battle it out in the competition’s final, which took place at the prestigious Butchers Hall, London. They were awarded third place in the Traditional Pork Sausage category, and presented with a commemorative salver.
The company, which has recently invested £2 million in its production facilities, supplies sausages to pub chain J D Wetherspoon, as well as serving the British military.
A delighted John Langford and Christine Gethin collected their award, and Mr Langford said afterwards said: “We’ve received a number of awards over the years and each one means just as much as the last. The ‘Breakfast Pork Sausage’ is one that was developed for pub chains, to feature on breakfast menus. It is a lighter sausage, but has great texture and flavour that really complements the other ingredients on the plate.
“We are licensed to use the Red Tractor logo, which demonstrates that our sausages are all made from quality assured ingredients. This is important to today’s customers who want great products at a reasonable price. This sausage more than fits the bill.”
The annual BPEX competition rewards excellence and innovation in sausages produced using Quality Assured pork for the catering industry. This year the competition drew over 200 entries from butchers, catering suppliers, manufacturers and chefs across the five categories; Traditional Pork Sausage, Speciality Pork Sausage, Best Pub Sausage, Best Innovative Sausage and Iconic British Banger.
