Sky is the limit for 2013 Air Show!

28/01/2013 @ 04:54

Welshpool’s Air Show will retain the name of the airport’s former owner Bob Jones, but the 2013 event’s size and success will depend on the town’s backing.

The Bob Jones Memorial Air Show will be held on June 9 and combine with Welshpool’s Festival of Transport, and organisers have put out a plea for support from the local market.

Welshpool Mayor John Meredith explained: “The show is still in its formative stages and support now from local business will help establish it while also benefiting those businesses – we want an even better show than last year.”

A launch event was attended by the RAF’s Community Relations Officer for Wales, Squadron Leader Albie Fox, who is also a committee member and he stressed to local business leaders that their backing will both produce a better airshow and provide them with a strong promotional opportunity.

The 2012 event saw a large crowd wowed by displays from the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the RAF Falcons parachute display team.

Businesses interested in getting involved should contact the committee through the Welshpool Town Council office – 01938 553142 or wtcouncil@btinternet.com

Mr. Jones, an experienced pilot, died in a tragic accident while preparing to land at the airport in January 2012.
