Councillors are to examine the process used by Powys County Council to tender for goods and services amid concern that local businesses find it difficult to win business.
It was announced today that the council's Cabinet is to review the way tenders can be applied for and the way procurement processes are administered.
Executive leader, Cllr David Jones, said: “In the short time we have been in cabinet a number of issues have been raised on how the council awards its tenders. We have now looked at and have requested a review of how local businesses can benefit from applying to be on our tender list.
"Whist we acknowledged the system is perceived to be difficult to get on we are looking in to how we can support local businesses to apply for local works in the community. We are all facing difficult financial times and regeneration is key to supporting the local community and if we can invest in local businesses whilst having a flexible approach to support the council to get best value for the residents money."
