Welshpool-based variable speed drives manufacturer, Invertek Drives, has been shortlisted in the Best International Trade category in the UK Energy Innovation Awards 2013.

The awards were created by the Energy Innovation Centre to celebrate technologies working to deliver a low carbon, sustainable and energy efficient future.

Invertek’s AC inverters, used to control the speed of electric motors, can reduce energy consumption by more than 50% in industrial, HVAC and pump applications by matching motor speeds to the exact requirements of each application. The company has invested heavily over recent years in the development of the high performance Optidrive P2 range of industrial drives and the Optidrive HVAC range for building services automation and pump control applications. The E2 general purpose drive completes this suite of energy saving products to suit a massive range of applications around the world.

The independently owned company, established in 1998, sells its products in more than 80 countries worldwide through a network of international sales partners; export trade accounts for more than 90% of Invertek’s business.

Sales and Marketing Director, Rhydian Welson, said: “Installing Optidrives can save significant amounts of energy, resulting in considerable cost savings as well as reducing environmental impact. We are very proud that our products have been recognised by the Energy Innovation Awards and are looking forward to the final next month.”

This year has seen a record number of entries from innovative energy businesses and individual candidates from places including Israel, USA, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

Denise Massey, director of the Energy Innovation Centre, said: “The calibre of nominations this year was of an exceptional standard and the judges had a really tough choice when it came to shortlisting. It’s also fantastic to see we had a record number of entries, highlighting the fantastic technologies out there which have real potential in the energy sector.

The UK Energy Innovation Awards ceremony will be held at The Radisson Blu Edwardian, Manchester, on April 25.
