Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a busy action at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (30)
A similar entry to last week met with an improved average of 130.78ppkg. Top price in the OTM section was achieved by EW Jones & Son, Lower Llanerchydol, for a Limousin cow weighing 750kg making £1110. OTM steers topped at £1238.40 for a Charolais steer weighing 688kg from D T Williams, Maes Y Nant. Under 48 month old heifers topped at £1130.64 from D P Evans, Moel Y Garth Farm, for a Limousin weighing 673kg.
PRIME HOGGETS (5659)
A entry of 5659 prime hoggets saw an overall average of 197.22pp/kg.
Super Lights (28) to 174pp/kg. Others to 167pp/kg from JD & AJ Jarman, Nantcwtta. Average of 171.36pp/kg.

CULL SHEEP (1381)
A slightly increased entry of culls met with averages of £75.52 for ewes and £87.52 for rams. Ewes topped at £155 for two ewes from DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro. Also achieving the top was a single ewe from E L Evans & Co, Green Farm. £153 was achieved by JR & RM & JP Andrews, Bronheulog, for a single ewe. Rams Topped at £133 from DP & CM Trant, Maesmawr Hall.
Weekly sales of culls to commence at approximately 12 noon, after the sale of prime hoggs.
STORE LAMBS
An entry of 140 store lambs sold to an average of £56. Top price of the day went to J Price, Llwyn, who sold a strong Texel Tup lamb for £73. Suffolk cross wethers sold to £68, whilst Texel cross mixed and clean lambs sold to £63.
Same again next week with store lambs selling from 10.30am.
Cade Lambs
This week saw another large entry of cade lambs, selling to an average of £10.50. Top price of the day was £27 for a shapely Beltex x lamb from J O Jones & J Lewis, Wern Farm, also from the same home another Beltex x lamb making £24. 13 lambs achieved £15 or more.
Same again next week with cades being sold after the couples.
IN-LAMB EWES
This week saw an entry of 55 in lamb ewes. Welsh full mouth ewes forward from G Evans, Tynygarreg, sold to £71 and £70 respectively. These were scanned in lamb to a Cheviot ram, due on the 20th April. Mule ewe lambs scanned for singles in lamb to a Lleyn tup and due to lamb from middle April, sold for £96.
Couples
This week saw an increased entry of 234 couples. Top price of the day went to HI & LJ Lloyd, Weirglodd deg, for a Texel cross 3 year ewe with cracking twin lambs at foot, selling for £194. Half bred 3 and 4 year old ewes with twin lambs at foot averaged £172 over the 4 lots. A Texel cross yearling ewe with twin lambs at foot from D Roberts, Glan Camlas, sold to £192. A Black Texel from the same home sold to £180.Other highlights saw mule as found ewes with twin lambs at foot sell to £142.

DAIRY COWS
There was a much more encouraging trade in the dairy section with an element of confidence returning leading to a top price of £1820 for a pedigree heifer from MR Williams, Wern Holding, the heifer was sired by Cold Springs Prentice and was giving 33 litres . A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £1800 + 1 lot; £1600 - £1800 1 lot.
