Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a busy action at Buttington Cross on Monday.
OTMS (38)
The 38 Otms forward met with an overall average of 112.06ppkg. Topping the section was J W Rees & Son, Nantyrhrndy, with a Charolais cow weighing 796kg making £1082.56. D A Jones & Co, Bronhaulwen, presented a Limousin weighing 704kg making £1006.72. Cows 48 – 72 topped at £1013.08 for a Limousin cow weighing 817kg making £1013.08.
PRIME CATTLE (5)
Five fat cattle met with an overall average of 212.69ppkg G Bound and son presented a 544kg Limousin heifer making the top price of 256ppkg. Also from the same home a Limousin steer weighing 562kg making 252ppkg.
PRIME LAMBS (2803)
A larger entry of 2803 prime lambs selling to an average of 156.64ppkg
Super Lights (5) to 135ppkg from M & ZL Lloyd, Haflen. Average of 135ppkg.
Lights (317) to 189ppkg & 176ppkg from G Jones, Bryn Ucha. Others to 176ppkg from JE & C Jones, Pwlliago. Average of 161.84ppkg.
Standards (615) to 187ppkg from Evan Davies & Co, Red House. Others to 178ppkg DWP Griffiths, Park Lodge. Average of 154.12ppkg.
Mediums (1195) to 192ppkg from J L Morgan, Llys Newydd. Others to 185ppkg from E Jones, Cofn Coch Isaf. Average of 156.74ppkg.
Heavies (519) to 184ppkg & 176ppkgfrom H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 174ppkg from T H Vaughan & Son, Maes mochnant Uchaf. Average of 159.53ppkg.
Over Weights (119) to 166ppkg GTW Andrew, Bwlch. Others to 163ppkg from 163ppkg AE & CA Jones, Groespluan Farm . Average of 151.97ppkg.
CULL SHEEP (2821)
A good show of cull sheep met with an average of £48.63 for ewes and £75.28 for rams. Ewes topped at £115 for a pen of 3 from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Also from the same home 7 ewes making £101. R P Ryder, Rhiwhiriaeth, presented 12 ewes making £99. Rams topped at £121 for a pen of 2 from H W Venables, Penygelly Farm.
COWS & CALVES
A good show of 20 cows and calves met with a sound trade topping at £2450 for a 2008 born Pure Limousin cow with her Limousin heifer calf from RCHJ, EM & AJ Wilson, Church Farm, Leebotwood. Also from the same home another Pure Limousin 2010 born cow with her bull calf making £2020. RJM Shearer, Tynreithin Hall, presented two British Blue cross 1st calvers with Limousin cross calves at foot making £2000 each.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000+ 4 lots, £1800 - £2000 1 lot, £1600 - £1800 1 lot, £1400 - £1600 4 lots, £1200 - £1400 5 lots, £1000 - £1200 4 lots.
STORE LAMBS
A much improved entry of 232 store lambs this week selling to a respectable average of £44. Suffolk tup lambs, from M C Payne, Heath Cottage, sold to £55, whilst Suffolk x tup lambs from Mr T Evans, Penycoed Uchaf, sold to £48. A majority of medium weight continental x lambs selling between £43 and £50. Sale of Store Lambs to commence from 10.30 next week, followed by breeding ewes.
BREEDING EWES
A few more breeding ewes this week seeing a total of 218 forward. Top price of the day went to DE & KD Langford, Brunant, who sold cracking Suffolk yearling ewes making £136. Similar Suffolk yearlings from the same home averaged £126 over 3 lots. There were another 80 Suffolk cross yearlings forward which sold to £100. As found Mule ewes sold to £78 and £76 respectively. Same again next week with breeding ewes selling from 11 am in Ring 4.
