Not quite the full Monty yet

Spar One leaders Montgomery have been told that their ground is not up to scratch for promotion, but its manager says the inspection has taken place too soon and will be ready come April’s deadline.
Inspectors from the Huws Gray Alliance ran the rule over Montgomery’s facilities which have undergone considerable work over the past 12 months to prepare for life in the upper echelons of Welsh football.
But the club received a set back by joining Newbridge on the ‘failed’ list of clubs deemed not to be ready off the pitch for promotion. Berriew and Rhayader have been given the green light to go up should they win the league.
“We have been pulled up on our lack of hard standing around the pitch as well as not having a male toilet and public address system,” said manager Clive McNamee who has guided Monty to the brink of the second tier of Welsh football from the bottom in just four seasons.
“We have only this month been awarded a grant of £9,600 to carry out this work so it annoys me that the inspection happens this month and then they come back again in April to see if the ground passes. Why inspect in January if it doesn’t need to be done until April? I think the inspections are done too early.”
There are few clubs in non-league football that have enjoyed the incredible rise that Montgomery have enjoyed and their performances this season have made them the unofficial favourites for the title, with Rhayader and Llanidloes close behind.
