While Welshpool Town’s date with Sky Sports has created a buzz among the local football scene, the serious business of winning points kicks off tonight (Friday).
A tasty looking local derby will see two sides in the Spar One mid-table keen to show they can compete with the league’s big boys as Berriew entertain Waterloo Rovers at 7.30pm.
The match launches a huge weekend of action which could have a big influence on where the Spar League titles will head this season.
Leaders Montgomery entertain Builth Wells while Rhayader are playing the supporting role to Welshpool’s Sky antics at Maesydre. Llanidloes entertain Bow Street while dark horses Newbridge go to the students of Aberystwyth. Carno travel to Dyffryn Banw.
In the Spar Two, Four Crosses, who revealed yesterday that their own celebrity signing could be WWE wrestling star Mason Ryan, play host to Presteigne while Knighton welcome Meifod who are managed now by Paul Lewis until the end of the season following Geoff Whittall’s departure.
Llanfair United welcome Abermule and Llanfyllin make the long trip to Tregaron.
Meanwhile, in the Huws Gray Alliance, two sides that looked outside bets for the title before Christmas meet looking to end a dismal run of form.
Caersws have not won in six matches while opponents Penycae are in the bottom three.
Guilsfield too are left with a season of trying to climb the table and can go above Caersws into the top 10 by beating Porthmadog if the Bluebirds slip up again. Llanrhaeadr entertain league leaders GAP Connah’s Quay.
