Guilsfield prove a point

 - created on 19/02/2012

A great fightback from Guilsfield saw them clinch a point in one of the few games to beat the weather in the Huws Gray Alliance.

There’s been some big tussles between the Guils and visitors Llandudno Town over the years but Saturday’s went right to the wire with a last minute equaliser from Sam Heenan securing a share of the spoils.

It made amends for his own goal in the first half which was added to an early strike for Llandudno to take a 2-0 half time lead. But Ian Probert pulled one back from the spot before Heenan’s late leveller ensured a 2-2 draw.

Title dark horses Flint Town United saw off a plucky challenge from Llanrhaeadr to win 2-0 thanks to a pair of first half goals.

Waterloo Rovers remain on target to repeat their heroics of 2010 when they won the Central Wales Cup after beating Bow Street 2-1 at home, while Berriew's tie at Rhosgoch was postponed once again.

The weather also caused havoc on the Spar Mid Wales League with only three games escaping the morning downpour.

The ground staff at Llanidloes worked wonders to get their game played and a big crowd watched them ease past Welshpool Town 4-0 with two goals in each half.

In Division Two, Llandrindod Wells have put themselves right back in with a shout and their 8-1 mauling of Llanfyllin moved them to into joint second and just four points off Knighton at the top.

Abermule returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at bottom side Meifod.

In the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League, Llangedwyn went six points clear in Honda One with a thrilling 4-3 victory at struggling Churchstoke.

With Guilsfield Reserves not playing, Llangedwyn took advantage with goals from Gavin Evans Nick Jones, Rich Evans and James Wigley with Stefan  Alsdorf, Ed Beedles and Ricky Davies keeping Churchstoke in touch.

Waterloo Reserves could have gone second but were stunned 1-0 at home by Caersws Reserves who move into third thanks to Drew Reynolds’s goal. Llanrhaeadr Reserves edged past Bettws 1-0 to end their slim hopes of a title.

In Mitsubishi Two, Four Crosses Reserves made up some points on the leading pack with a crushing 7-1 win over Waterloo Colts with seven different scorers making their mark while bottom side Llandrinio went down 3-2 at Trefonen despite two from Dave Walton.

In the Llanidloes Town League Cup Round 2 on Friday night, Llanidloes Reserves beat Carno Reserves 3-0.
