This year’s Llanfyllin Show president is Moyra Griffiths, a director of Tudor Griffiths Group, a leading Shropshire-based business suppling construction materials, building supplies, ready-mixed concrete, waste management and recycling.

Mrs Griffiths, of Aston Hall, Oswestry, who is married to Tudor Griffiths Group chairman Billy Griffiths, has strong family links with Llanfyllin through her late mother, Ethel Hughes, who lived there. Her aunt, Evelyn, married Llanfyllin’s undertaker Jack Jackson.

“It was very nice to be invited to become show president because of my family connections with Llanfyllin,” she said. “My daughter Joy has exhibited her Highland cattle and Lleyn sheep, my grandchildren have competed in the showjumping and the Tudor Griffiths Group has had a trade stand at the show for many years.

“The company has many loyal customers in the Llanfyllin farming community and I spent many happy family holidays there with my cousins while growing up.

“I really believe that agricultural shows like Llanfyllin are important to showcase rural life and it’s nice to see that it is growing and people are supporting it. I am looking forward to seeing all the different sections of the show on Saturday, August 13.”

To celebrate her presidency, she is hosting a president’s lunch at Aston Hall on Sunday, July 24 for up to 300 people. “I am hoping that the lunch will be well attended because local shows need public support,” she added.

Tickets for the lunch, which includes entertainment by harpists Greta and Gwenno Roberts and Adleis Jones, cost £18.50 and are available from Llanfyllin Show secretary Jill Hollinshead on Tel: 01691 828628.

Mrs Griffiths and her family are loyal supporters of local charities. A joint birthday celebration for her husband, who will be 75 and daughter Joy, who will be 45, will be held the week after the president’s lunch and money raised will be donated to charity.

Known as the ‘friendly show’ because of the warm welcome extended to visitors, Llanfyllin Show attracts around 5,000 visitors. Star attraction this year is Above and Beyond, the UK's most experienced aerial display team.

The show is held at Bodfach Park by permission of Simon and Maggie Baynes and Janet Jones and this year’s chairman is Emyr Jones.
