Who’s a clever bunch then?

An incredible 99.3% of Welshpool High School students achieved a “best ever” five A*-C grades or more in today’s GCSE results.

The incredible news was delivered this morning by the Head Teacher Jim Toal who has praised his staff as well as the teacher in setting a new record for the school.

“We are absolutely thrilled by the results this year, which are outstanding.  In all of the key areas, the results are the best in the school’s history,” he said.

Every single student gained five or more passes with 70.2% obtaining five A* - C grades including English and Mathematics.  78.2% of students attained a A*- C grade in English, and 76.8% a A* - C grade in Mathematics.

In Science, 94% gained a grade A* - C in GCSE or BTEC equivalent.

“We are also very pleased that there was a 100% pass rate for the students who studied BTEC courses,” added Mr Toal. “The students deserve massive credit for their achievements, and our warmest congratulations. I would also like to commend the excellent team of staff for their support in helping the students achieve these outstanding results.

Among the notable individual achievements were:

Beatrice Kerry – 8 A*; 3 A and 2 Distinction *

Samual Dyer – 10 A*; 1 A

Annabelle Casement – 9 A*; 2 As

Jack Foulkes – 8 A*, 3 As
