Treaty of Montgomery plans
Powys County Council is to be asked to support the 750th anniversary of the Treaty of Montgomery which takes place later this year.
The treaty, between Henry III and Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, formally recognised Llywelyn as Prince of Wales. It was signed on 29 September 1267.
A motion will be put forward by County Councillor Stephen Hayes and County Councillor Kath Roberts-Jons for the council to consider promoting or supporting the "historic treaty" as part of the town's celebrations.
"The motion, which will go to the full county council on Thursday, says: "That Council consider whether, and if so how, it wishes to promote or support appropriate events to mark the 750th anniversary in September 2017 of the historic Treaty of Montgomery.
The motion will be proposed by Cllr Hayes and seconded by Cllr Roberts-Jones.
It is not known what plans are being prepared for the celebrations in Montgomery, although civic and town events are being considered by the town council and other groups.
