Popular Welshpool man Carl Gannon promised to raise a good sum for the hospital that once saved his life, and didn’t he do grand... Two grand in fact!

Carl has been sporting the caveman look of late and he replied to people telling him to shave off his growing locks and beard by putting their money where their mouths are.

The result? A whopping £2,000 raised on Saturday night for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital where Carl spent long nights as a six-year-old recovering from major open heart surgery as well as a number of other oprations.

“I want to thank Craig and the Angel staff for letting me do it there and also Pure Beauty for their donation,” said Carl. “Also, I want to thank everyone who sponsored me, bought raffle tickets and items in the promise auction. Also a big thanks to those who donated raffle prizes and items for the promise auction.”

His sister Laura Roberts added: “We are very proud of Carl as he has a heart of gold and will help anyone.”
