‘We’re fed up with boy racers’

Boy racers have a community up in arms, and residents have called for help to bring an end to the problem.

The issue has been highlighted in Guilsfield over the weekend where the village primary school and football pitch / bowling club car park have become gathering places for young drivers at all hours.

“The car park by the football field, tennis courts and bowling green is constantly being used by boy racers thrashing their cars and wheel spinning very loudly and using the road in and out as a drag strip,” complained one resident.

“Not only do we have young children living here but there are also elderly residents who are being disturbed late at night.

“The police do come out now and again to be fair but it happens at different times. It also happens during the day on weekends too and I can see someone getting knocked one of these days.

“It's very unfair. It wouldn’t be so bad if they just used the area to park up and hang out but the road is in a 20mph limit and the speed and manner of driving is something you'd expect to see on a race track not in a village.”

Helen Thomas, the Community Centre Committee treasurer, told us: “The Community Centre Committee would appreciate the raising of awareness to this issue especially as it also effects the car park at the school where damage is being done to school gates which secure the children's playground during the school day keeping the children safe.”

Village officials and police urge anyone who sees anti-social behaviour to contact police on 101.
