Garden competition announced

Green fingered council house tenants are being urged to prepare their gardens for the annual Powys Gardens Competition.
Council tenants throughout Montgomeryshire will be able to showcase their talents through a number of categories announced by the council.
This year sees prizes on offer for the best gardens in Powys for:
· Best Kept Garden for households living in general housing
· Best Kept Senior Citizens Garden for households living in designated sheltered housing
· Best Kept Estate for an estate or group of general housing
· Best Kept Senior Citizens Estate for an estate or group of designated sheltered housing
· Best Vegetable Garden
· Best Hanging Basket or Container
Prizes for the for the Best Kept Garden, Senior Citizens Garden, Estate, Senior Citizens Estate and the Most Bee Friendly Garden in Montgomeryshire are also up for grabs.
Tenants can enter their own garden, estate or even nominate a neighbour’s garden, but only if they have their permission.
County councillors and staff from the council’s Housing Services Team will also be able to nominate estates and individual gardens if the tenant has given permission.
Simon Inkson, Powys County Council’s Head of Housing, said: “We know that we have lots of tenants who work very hard on their gardens and the competition is designed to give recognition to those people.
“We would like to encourage everyone who works on their garden. Be it a container or hanging basket, a full blown flower display or even a tasty vegetable garden, we want to receive your entry.”
Judging will take place early August and the competition will culminate with presentation ceremonies where winners will be presented with trophies and prizes later on in the year.
Every tenant in Powys will be sent a letter with a form regarding this year’s competition. If you want to enter the competition then fill in the form and return before Friday, June 30, 2017.
