Three Gold Stars for brewery

Monty’s Brewery has received 3 Gold Stars in this year’s Great Taste Awards for its Oatmeal, Stout, Dark Secret.

There were 12366 entries in this year’s prestigious competition covering all sorts of products from Salami to flour, but the Montgomery company’s product  were among only 165 that received the coveted 3 Stars – and only five were beers.

The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. It has been described as the “Oscars” of the food world.

Russ Honeyman Commercial Director for Monty’s Brewery said “This is a big award for us, Dark Secret is a great beer, it also happens to be gluten free as well, the judges comments were impressive, - Cleverly constructed, Deep colour and inviting in the glass, Smooth and sweet from the oatmeal.

“We also received 2 Stars for our beer Old Jailhouse and 1 for Sunshine. We have received 1 and 2 stars before but this is our first 3 star,” he added.

“These awards come at a great time for us, having  also just received in the same week our single biggest export order for over 10,000 bottles to France of our 7.3% Imperial IPA Eastbound. This stemmed from a great Welsh Government initiative back in March this year the TasteWales event held at Celtic Manor Resort.”

Monty’s brewery based in Montgomery is a SALSA Plus Beer accredited brewery producing some 20,000 pints a week, that are either bottled, cask or kegged all on site, it employs ten people in the local area and has a great visitor centre on the edge of Montgomery itself where you can sample the beers and buy gifts.
